Adam
Torries, what a bunch of cunts. They would of probably sold the bank to some of their chums in the city and fucked everyone over like before. This way at least secures a future for the rock, and keeps some jobs in the north east. Also nice to see my HM treasure shirts are back out
merlin
There isn't a single party in the UK worth voting for - they have ALL sold the country down the river and the s--t is about to really hit the fan...hard times on the way.....
LooneyToonArmy
apologies if repeat post Nice work from the Fat man for once -------------------------------- Shepherd's cash deal turns into a winner for Newcastle Last updated at 11:10am on 21st February 2008 Newcastle United have escaped a major headache over the Northern Rock crisis thanks to an extraordinary piece of business by former chairman Freddy Shepherd. In 2005, the Tyneside-based bank agreed a five-year deal, reportedly worth around £25million, to be the club's shirt sponsor. Payment for such deals is usually spread over the course of the contract but Shepherd negotiated for Northern Rock to pay most of the cash, nearly £20m, up front. Around the same time, the club splashed out £16m on signing Michael Owen from Real Madrid. New Newcastle chairman Chris Mort was initially unhappy on discovering the terms of the deal but, given the bank's spectacular demise, Shepherd's manoeuvre now looks inspired. The club are expected to hold talks with the bank's new chiefs to negotiate a release from the agreement before 2010. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=517197&in_page_id=1779&ct=
Dave
Aye, getting Owen was inspired. Seriously though, good work at the time appears to have helped this not really affect us now.
lovejoy
as great as it sounds, its a hell of a lot of luck imo, for something that initially looked daft as fuck. credit where its due though!
NG32
Should we not be letting Northern Rock has the last couple of years of their shirt sponsor money, saying as they have paid for it? Or is this NR requesting it be removed?
SEMTEX
Should we not be letting Northern Rock has the last couple of years of their shirt sponsor money, saying as they have paid for it? Or is this NR requesting it be removed? NR won't want to sponsor us and are more than likely to cut their losses once they get their act together. Or else we'll probably end up with a Benefit Fraud advert and we will have completed the move to biggest laughing stock in the world ever.
