Mick
He's opened his new Cancer Research Unit today, I'm over the moon that he's been able to see what he's done for Cancer sufferers. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ukpress/article/ALeqM5i9XgY21r95Oj_RiEiBXCacaVjSDQ Sir Bobby Robson has made an inspiring, heartfelt and often funny speech at the launch of a £500,000 research centre in his name. England coach Fabio Capello joined him at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle, to hand over £75,000 from the FA, which is on top of £1.2m already raised for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation. The 76-year-old was diagnosed with the disease for a fifth, and probably final, time a year ago and he has dedicated much of that time to fighting the disease. He was asked to try to raise £500,000 to equip a specialist trials centre and that target was reached in just seven weeks. Sir Bobby was not expected to speak at the launch, but made a 15 minute speech about his battle, the inspiration he has been given from meeting fellow patients and his pride in seeing one of the leading cancer centres in Europe open on Friday. He even managed to joke about his ongoing fight since he was diagnosed last March, saying: "I have had longer than a football League manager." Sir Bobby thanked Capello for coming to the north-east adding: "By the way, if you want to see Newcastle, I can get you a ticket." He said that the England boss's presence made this "a perfect day". In return, Capello said he remembered the times when, at different clubs across Europe, they had been on opposing sides. "But now we are here together to fight against cancer," the Italian said. Guest toonlass
Happy belated birthday Sir Bob and well done too sir, on opening the unit. Fabulous news. A legend, pure and simple.
Cheshire Mag
Happy Birthday Sir Bob, you are a true gentleman and a legend of the game. Was disgusted to see in the Daily Mirror that Jade f*cking Goody had the front page to herself whilst SBR had a small picture about what he is doing on the back page. What has our country come to? Guest toonlass
Happy Birthday Sir Bob, you are a true gentleman and a legend of the game. Was disgusted to see in the Daily Mirror that Jade f*cking Goody had the front page to herself whilst SBR had a small picture about what he is doing on the back page. What has our country come to? God alone knows. Its a nation obsessed with talentless idiots, while a legend of sport and an all round gent who has done a fabulous charitable deed is relegated to the small print. While Jade Goody is well within her rights to raise as much money as she can for her kids, its a damned disgrace that people like Bobby are given such short shrift. However there is comfort in knowing that Sir Bob will be remembered for a hell of a lot longer and in far greater esteem than these talentless big brother ex housemates. Cheshire Mag
As sad as it is, I really think that Goody will be remembered by the general public more than SBR. I wouldnt be suprised if Goodys funeral was televised. I dont even feel sorry for Goody, only her kids, as they are going to be without a mother, whilst SBR has raised thousands of pounds to build a cancer research centre at the Freeman. Sorry state of affairs.
Guest toonlass
Nah, Goody is like a big mac and fries, instantly forgettable. Whereas Sir Bob is like an elegent meal which you remember fondly for years.
