Compare this back line from our last trip to West Ham in September of 2006:

Carr, Moore, Ramage, Babayaro

to the one that will start on Saturday:

Beye, Taylor, Faye, Enrique

What a difference a few seasons make, and Big Sam wasn't all bad.  I'm still convinced that personel-wise, we improved greatly over Roeder's regime, even if the football was shite.

To be fair, we could also list a seemingly-awful back four that qualified for the champions league. - so I don't know what to believe :undecided:

Hughes-O'Brien-Bramble-Bernard.

They had better players in front of them though in general.

Looking back I really can't believe we stayed in the premier league in the year of the Roeder.

How the hell we ended up with such bad players getting a first team game is baffling.

Yep, I guess we had just managed to put the emphasis on attack/playing our own game at that time as well, much like we're doing now. I suppose the more any defender is asked to defend, the more mistakes they'll inevitably make (see Distin/Campbell recently).

Even worse when those defenders are actually shit.
