Newcastle United................present tense.

Recommended Posts

If and when Spurs get into the CL, I want to feel pride for the achievement, just like Newcastle fans did a decade or so ago, not because our wallet is bigger than someone else's.

Newcastle were in the Champions League five years ago.  I agree with what your saying though BTW.

unforynatly i don't think we'll get one without the other now.

Easy...just have that osama family buy over from MA and we have tons of money to spend. Of Course we will be seriously hated by everyone, but hey, we can have anyone we wan. and with such connections, we might even win the league on the first try.

Is this wat you wan?

Newcastle United.............. present tense.

Mike Ashley and his 'front office team' = Newcastle United punching well below our listed weight as a 'big club'.

My sentiments exactly.

Our Premier League record:

3,6,2,2,13,13,11,4,3,5,14,7,13,12 - Avg 8th

So slightly below our punching weight, but not massively.

we´ve gone forward under ashley, its plain as fucking day, however ashley does need to start spending more imo, i´d still take him over most other premierleague chairmen at the current time.

look at a club like blackburn, who had a really good set up, a chance to break into the top 6, and now, because their chairman doesn´t spend money, they´ve lost hughes, are going to lose most of their best players probably, and will drop out of the race for europe next season. that is a bad chairman imo, who has an oppertunity like that and passes it up.

i dont think ashley wont or cant spend money btw, i just think he hasnt felt comfortable spending big thus far.

We should be challenging for European football though imo.The fact that we have done with decent managers makes me think how shit we have become since SBR was ousted.

we should be, but we´ve been in decline now for 4 years.

it will take time to get back up there as well, considering how far spurs, pompey, everton, villa, liverpool and citeh caught up or overtook us in the time we were shit.

You're comparing apples with bananas and you know you are!

We may be the team with the fifth highest average finish, but in that time our average finish is 8th.

For example, Ipswich finished (I believe) 4th and 18th, giving them an average of 11th position. Reading were 6th and 18th - 12th Average.

Now off the top of my head...

Man Utd

Arsenal

Chelsea

Liverpool

Everton

Man City

Newcastle

Aston Villa

Tottenham

Sunderland

Boro

Wimbledon

etc

Have all been in the Premier league for more than 2 seasons, meaning that the 11th and 12th avergae positions of Ipswich and Reading do not put them as the 11th and 12th most successful teams in Premier League history

We have the fifth highest average behind the 'big 4'. Behind us are Blackburn, Leeds, Villa then Spurs.

Or so says this article from last year

http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4158/is_20070315/ai_n18716483/pg_2

I guess that doesn't take last season into account.

As I was saying.

It also diesn't take into account the last 3 seasons Leeds have had outside the Premier league (effectively finishing 20+ each year).

Lordy, even the Mackems look more ambitious than us in the market.

Because they're paying too much for Tottenham rejects and getting more transfer speculation in the papers than we are?

When we were bought out,i ,maybe stupidly, became enthused that the not so distant Champions League days, may return soon, especially with a billionaires dosh supporting that aim.Now ,virtually almost 12 months later,i fear for our Premiership place. What i'm saying is Mr. Ashley, your business acumen is undoubtedly superb, but football is different. You need to speculate to accumulate.I don't for one moment believe that you as owner have anything in your head but a nice fat profit in your wallet.

Well fellow Newcastle United fans, until he puts his money where his mouth may be!!I,for one although,300 miles away, will not even be buying an away jersey.I believe,at this moment, this owner of ours isn't right for us,successfully football wise.

with the lack of signings to date, the feeling of the fans who dedicate their lives to NUFC, there is no way MA will be sitting with the fans or socialising in the toon for a while – even if he does bribe everyone with a round of drinks.

I agree but not even close to the point of the thread.
