Fans think Keegan was right to leave

Sep 27 2008 by Alan Oliver, Evening Chronicle

A MASSIVE 84% of Newcastle United fans believe that Kevin Keegan was right to quit Newcastle United, (writes ALAN OLIVER).

And 67% of them want to see the man dubbed The Messiah return to St James’s Park.

This has been revealed in an exclusive online poll organised by the Chronicle to gauge the feelings of the United supporters.

And the results could hardly be more decisive.

Keegan is clearly the man the United faithful want as their full-time manager, with 67% of the vote.

Certainly the fans do not have much faith in club owner Mike Ashley. A huge 70.5% say he is to blame for the club’s current plight and 79% say they are less optimistic about the club’s future under him than when Freddy Shepherd was in the chair.

But the biggest vote was the 93.5% who thought that United would not pick up any silverware this season, followed closely by the 85.5% who believe that the current squad is not good enough to challenge for Europe.

That is understandable too. We've got an owner on the way out and no-one knows what the next one will be like. Impossible to be optimistic under those circumstances.
