The rules say you cant be registered with three clubs in a year. Defoe was at Spurs, went to Portsmouth and then back to Spurs. Thats only two different clubs if my counting is correct. A player is not meant to join the same club he left within 12 months - I forget why, it's something to do with signig them back on less wages.
