Guest The Libertine
worst chairman we've ever had by many a mile. fat pie man. best league positions though. mackems.gif almost "did a leeds". mackems.gif stupid fat pie man. best league positions mackems.gif We're on the way to "doing a Leeds" now mind. Shame you dismiss the champions league and european qualifications where we came closer to "doing a Liverpool" than we ever did to "doing a Leeds". Still, I'm sure you know best, and even McKeag etc who left the club with one foot in the 3rd division and couldn't sell it for 1.25m quid were great chairman compared to fat fred mackems.gif Would you have liked him more if he'd shared one of his pies with you ? liverpool won the champions league the same season the fat pie man appointed the worst manager we've ever had. "doing a liverpool" mackems.gif mackems.gif http://img.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/01_03/sounessDM1301_468x297.jpg mackems.gif and we are how many places above Leeds ? Still don't let your "opinion" get in the way of facts. Do you remember Bill McGarry, Ossie Ardiles, or Richard Dinnis by the way ? Do you know anything about the 1970's and 1980's ? Or does your history of the club begin in 1992 like many others who think the Halls and Shepherd brought an end to decades of glorious success mackems.gif Tell you what lad, Mike Ashley will leave this club near Leeds by the time he is finished. He might even leave it below them the way he's going. Still, I'm sure you know best. i thought i would challenge myself to get you to say the following phrases before the 3rd page; "mckeag" "3rd division" "champions league" and "pre 1992". calling me "too young to know" earned me a bonus point. i win. Unfortunately, under Mike Ashley, we all lose. the fat pie man got his pieces of silver and was saved from being the (fat pie) man who killed this fine club. he won mackems.gif
Rich
Fred has a sort of roughneck charm about him, I must admit, I can see why you love him mate (safety wink). I think as much as anything he was a victim of the raised expectations that he helped to create amongst the fans, who have become spoiled brats for the most part when it comes to their perceptions of their club. On top of that, he was digging a hole over and over trying to fulfil those (unrealistic?) expectations again and I think the problem most have with him lies herein. Although nobody bar him and those around him know what plans he had up his sleeve to remedy this (the ground expansion and the development plans for the land around SJP must have been a big part of this.) I have nothing personal against the bloke, as I say, I wish he had done the business for us here (as I'd love nothing better for the club to be Geordie from top-to-bottom) and I certainly wish he had Ashley's money as I don't think there's any doubt we'd be better off with Shepherd at the helm ahead of the inexperienced and at times incredibly naive "team" we have there now, but such is life. Nowt any of us can do about it unfortunately, just have to roll with the punches. Whinging and moaning on internet forums (both sides) does nothing to help though, especially when you're chomping at such obvious wind-up attempts as you did there. There's an excellent debate to be had about Freddy Shepherd some day, when more information is readily to hand and I bet he comes off far more "in the middle" than at either end of the agenda-ridden spectrum that we see on here day-in, day-out (again from both sides). The bloke has had his time though and he did a hell of a lot with it, I think most would readily admit he did a lot of good here but by the same token most will never forgive him for some things he did (the brothel incident and the massive salaries he had, as well as all the dodgy dealings with warehouses and what have you), rightly or wrongly. *Shrug* I can't say fairer than that really. You have to be joking. I've ran rings around your mate and one or two others, because you can't argue with the FACT that the Halls and Shepherd have been by far the best board in the last 50 years, and those who got their wish and wanted rid of them, are actually, eeerrr, looking now at a club worse off for it - but they haven't got the balls to admit it . Mick
Westwood wasn't exactly brilliant either You're right but at least he delivered a trophy that was worth winning.
NE5
Westwood wasn't exactly brilliant either You're right but at least he delivered a trophy that was worth winning. he did, but such ridiculous comparisons are like saying Joe Royle, Maurice Evans, Steve McLaren, Bobby Gould and Ray Harford were better managers than Kevin Keegan because they won a domestic trophy. You get dafter by the minute in your desperation.
