Decky
Suppose for a minute that Ireland were to form a team from the entire island...who would make the starting 9? The same team except Jonny Evans, Steven Davis and possibly Chris Baird would come in. Shane Ferguson as well. Possibly Paddy The Derry Messi McCourt for shits and giggles. Decky
That team looks weak. We'd have a better chance of qualifying with 11 GAA footballers.
Chapo
I'm the same but the lack of quality is shocking! We're effectively paying trap to polish a turd! And paying him a ridiculous amount at that!
Nobody
Mikael Lustig starting at RB for Sweden, Ireland should have a good chance of winning if they attack the right hand side; he is fucking useless

Fucking hell, that side of the pitch is going to be fucking horrible Wilson and McClean for Ireland, Lustig and Larsson for Sweden the sad thing is thats about as good as it gets for us since the other option is Aiden fucking McGeady who never does anything other than lose the ball and at lb Stephen Ward where I'm reasonably certain a scarecrow would be more effective :'( Tonight is going to be unpleasant
Coco
Yeah, we simply don't have the players right now. It's easy for people to blame Trapattoni, but look at what he has to work with. The future is pretty grim for Irish football.
jdckelly
I'm the same but the lack of quality is shocking! We're effectively paying trap to polish a turd! And paying him a ridiculous amount at that! its also why I'm more neutral on Trap and not overly fond of the witch-hunt the media's set out on against him because some sections of the media (Eamonn Dunphy) seem under the deluded impression that not only should we be qualifying but also qualifying while playing football like Barcelona despite having basically a championship level side. As unpleasant as the football under traps been at least its worked til recently getting us to a tournament and a world cup playoff which is miles better than we normally do. The future is pretty grim for Irish football. I wonder what kind of funding goes towards soccer here? GAA clubs have fantastic funding. I mean even small clubs get so much. Pretty much every town/village in Ireland has a GAA club which has a club house, personalized kits, gyms etc and in a lot of cases flood lighting. If the FAI and the IFA invested as much into local soccer as the GAA does in to local clubs then maybe there'd be more of an interest and therefore better players here? We lucked out with the general quality of players we had for years. Look at the team from the late 80's through the 90's and even in the early 00's. We had a solid spine of premier league (or old first division) players with the odd stand out player like Roy Keane, Paul McGrath, Denis Irwin, etc. Now we are lucky to be able to field a championship level team, full of cloggers like Paul Green and Jonathan Walters. It's a fucking disgrace, but I just don't see the FAI being capable of arresting the slide.
