Premier League introduce home-grown quota and squad size limit

This is a good move, but far too late and not radical enough, in my opinion. I wish the Premier League had gone with a 3 foreigners rule (in the match day squad) since the outset. However that was never going to happen when the massive money started rolling in - obviously and unfortunately the more overseas 'stars', the more money to be made from broadcasting.

If that rule had been brought out, then teams similar to the Newcastle one we have now would be commonplace in the Premiership. Standard of football would be rubbish. Remember when this was a rule in the Champions League? Man Utd were regularly 3rd or 4th in the opening group stage getting hammered 4-0 at home to Barcelona.

They were playing a Barcelona team that was brilliant who were following the same rules.

It sounds like a group of measures designed to head off the stricter proposals that are in the pipeline from UEFA. Nothing else.

Spot on, looks like a big shake up  but is not. Also "Clubs can also supplement their 25- man squad with a B-list, featuring as many players as they want who were under the age of 21 at the start of the previous January. "

As for the financial stuff the tax man was chasing football anyway. I guess the PL will read the Chelsea & Man City accounts think these clubs are fucked & then on last page it will say "that owner Roman Abramovich/Sheikh Mansour are not about to call in there loans"

Is there anyway to stop the Arabs just forming some company and sponsering Man City for 200 million pounds a year?

Hopefully not. It's the only interesting thing to happen to the top of the league in years.

Guest north shields lad

The fact that Insua and ngog will qualify as home grown next season, just basically means the top 4 or 5 clubs will sign even more half decent european kids when they are 16, so they can sit on the bench when there 19.

Man City are now going to focus on the Academy in the next 12 months, and will not be spending as much as they have in the past year.

Haven't they spent about £200m in the last 12 months?  They'd have a hard time spending much more than that.

The academy spending is just bullshit, Chelsea said the same thing but to this day not a single academy player has made it into their first team.  When your owner decides to spend as much as City & Chelsea have on players they'll simply spend a few £million more to purchase a trusted, experienced player rather than risk their investment on a youngster.

I dont mind Man City whacking the cash around but this shite about the Academy it was a case if it aint broke dont fuck around. Moving Jim Cassell to Abu Dhabi will come to haunt them.

Fairplay to the cunts at PLHQ & its members for giving the Football Conference, Conference South & North a £1 million windfall to divide amongst the clubs which should get each club about £15K which helps fill the void of the missing £77K from Shitanta

To be fair to City, they've brought through more than most in the last 5-6 years or so (Wright-Phillips, Barton, Ireland, Onuoha, Richards, Sturridge, Evans...)
