The Chronicle understands that the 24-year-old could be Chris Hughton's first cash signing in charge of United after a torrid time in the January window. Perch won promotion with Forest under the guidance of Colin Calderwood with the Toon number two a big admirer of the player. Perch, has been club captain during his time with the Trees, has recently made a comeback from a stress fracture of the shin that has kept him out of action at the City Ground. And he has appeared in the last four games as Billy Davies' side have emerged as genuine title contenders behind United in the Championship.
