Centerback is a pretty glaring priority given that we're stuck with Coloccini (past it), Williamson (average/unspectacular), Taylor (increasingly unreliable + always injured) and MYM (pardewed).

Wish we could find a way to ship one of those out and get a replacement. At this point it almost feels like a bad thing that Colo decided not to leave.

Tiote, Anita, Colback, Abeid - which one of those is a) going to dominate the midfield b) create chances c) score 8 - 12 goals a season. This needs to be sorted urgently but it won't  :dave:

I don't think we'll see anyone else coming in. Which is absolute madness because if we don't get a proven striker we're f***ed.

Not sure what a proven striker looks like in this league, no guarantees and not many knocking about in the 10-15 mil range willing to come. We may need goals from elsewhere in Cabella, De Jong , Sissokho and Gouffran with hoping Cisse, Riviere, Perez and Chucky share a few. We need to focus on creating the chances and getting players into good positions with good supply.

So, our net spend is around £0 right now? Which means that we should very easily be able to afford another 3 new players for around £30m in total. Then we can call it an impressive window, the penny has dropped for Ahsley and all that. We've only used the Cabaye and Debuchy money so far and still some people on the internet go on as if we're showing ambition...

As we only spend what we raise from sales, my point is who would we sell to get that kind of money in. Can anyone really seeing Ashley spend more than he gets in form sales ?

It's not about net spend. If Ronaldo is out of contract and comes to us for free, are we going to consider that as no net spend when we'll theoretically be paying £300k/week in wages? That'll be a nice £15m a year on wages.

Of course, our wages aren't that high but I'm illustrating the point that it's not solely about net spend. If you look at the Premiership, wages are a greater determinant of finishing position than anything else, even including the outliers like QPR who got relegated.

I'm becoming happier with our window because we've made good short term moves and supplemented it with some decent looking long term moves too. If only we could sack Pardew too, that'd be perfect. I'm afraid the squad is becoming good enough that he'll easily scrape 8th, considering how Southampton were gutted.

So why have you linked net spend with how much theoretical room we have to spend then? It should be net expenditures +/- the changes in wages on a yearly basis +/- projected financial year profits (losses) and then you'll be able to make a reasonable assumption of how much financial room we have this summer, January and next summer.

Saying we have no net spend therefore we have £30m in the bank is flat out wrong.

I just think that we should still be able to afford to spend £30m on new players, AND wages on top of that for those 3 players. Whatever...

Without ending up like Leedsmouth. We haven't exactly spent extreme amounts for the last few years. But maybe im flat out wrong..

Of course we can, Everton managed it and we are in a far healthier position

At least show how you've come to that conclusion then.

My back of the envelope math says that we've got around £10-15m left to spend with the wages to support that kind of player. If we spend more then it's borrowing from next summer now.

If we're able to spend this then we'll have around £10-15m to spend next summer, which ain't bad considering our squad depth now.

Add: Cabaye £19m plus this summers ins/outs and its looking good.

Plus our wage bill was undoubtedly higher in those days to cover any debate there as to where we are now.
