Not sure if this is being discussed anywhere else but a mag who was on his way to Spurs on Sunday was hit by a train and is critically ill now. You can leave messages for him on the Chron website

Messages of support have been flooding in for a Newcastle United fan seriously injured when he fell under a train in London.

Chronicle readers have been expressing their concern for Darren White after we revealed details of the horrific incident.

The 41-year-old is thought to have collapsed as he attempted to board a train at the capital’s Bexleyheath Station, hours before he had been due to watch his beloved team play Tottenham, on Sunday morning.

Darren then seemingly fell from the platform under the train and was dragged along the tracks.

The college caretaker, from Peterlee, was found seriously injured and was taken to King’s College Hospital, in London, where he remains with his girlfriend Karen Rodgers at his bedside.

Darren lost three toes in the incident and suffered a broken pelvis, punctured lung, and lost skin from his back.

Today one of the season ticket holder’s closest pals, Stephen Harvey, told the Chronicle that Darren now faces a nine-hour operation.

The 51-year-old said: “He had a very comfortable night last night but he’s still in a bad way. He’s sedated at the moment and he’s going to have to have a nine-hour operation.”

Meanwhile messages have been flooding in from Chronicle readers and fellow Newcastle United fans.

Sean Mallon said: “Oh dear God, please let him be ok, will be praying for this poor fella and his family tonight.”

And Stephen Bird wrote: “From a Geordie all the way in the USA, get well soon.”

While Paul Codona said: “Get better soon. Fingers, legs and arms crossed for a good man.”

Darren, who works at East Durham College, usually travels to away games by coach with other local fans on a bus organised by Bobby Huntington.

But he made the trip to London on Friday to visit friends before the game and had been on his way to meet the rest of the Peterlee Mags when the incident happened.

Stephen added: “I have travelled all over to watch Newcastle United with Darren. He rarely misses a match. He would have been at Hartlepool last night watching the reserves.

“He’s just such a lovely lad. I have never even heard him raise his voice.

“He must have just slipped. It’s just so sad. We are all just hoping he’s going to be alright.”

And Bobby, 60, added: “It’s just been awful news for all of us. You could not meet a nicer bloke, no one has a bad word to say about him, My phone has never stopped ringing since this happened.”

The incident is now being investigated by British Transport Police (BTP). A spokesman said: “The full circumstances of the incident are still under investigation, and officers would like to speak to anyone who was at the station at the time, but has not yet come forward to police.”

Anyone with information call British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting incident reference 106 of October 26.
