Neither Rafa nor Bruce had us playing good football. We were just getting men behind the ball and hoping for something on the break or from a set piece. We had no press at all.

Apart from the turnaround in results, it's a major achievement of Eddie's that he's been able to coach a much more positive and attacking performance out of the squad. The usual strategy for getting out of a relegation scrap is to shore up the defence, but he achieved it with the opposite strategy.

Fuck me. Go and watch the last half of Rafa's last season. We were playing some excellent stuff when it was starting to come together. I think we were sixth or something if you only count the second half of the season.

Rafa was his own worst enemy there. That was way above what Ashley has targeted so fuck giving Rafa any support as he's way overachieving.

34th game of the season 0-2 defeat at home to Arsenal had us 17th.

38th game of the season Rafa had us relegated. Not all his fault but it was still relegation under him.

Ah right. You're judging Rafa with only 10 games left of the season after inheriting McLaren's shitstorm. Blissfully ignoring the pretty solid defence Bruce inherited from Benitez, which he obliterated and then had us languishing 17th for the second half of the 20-21 season. https://www.nufc.com/html/2020-21html/fixtures.html

What he inherited was a very very good squad to be fair.

Agreed, no idea how Bruce dismantled it so easily.

Rafa dismantled it by some of his choice and by obvious relegation departures of players who didn't want championship football.

I mean, give Magvicar his dues, as a Mackem I'm sure the football was much more enjoyable when we had Bruce in charge [emoji38]

Rafa helped create the basis for Howe imo. Got players in who gave a shit and 'got it', revitalised the support and helped make it clear that Ashley was our barrier to success (if anyone couldn't already figure that out).

It says something that the likes of Murphy, Lascelles and Ritchie still play a key part in our squad.

Howe has taken us to the next level and whilst that is largely down to his dedication and desire to be the best he can be, it is somewhat down to the character of those already present at the club and having backing from the board.

Anyone slating Rafa is looking through some sort of bizarre rose-tinted glasses for me.
