Stop fretting about relegation. Instead, embrace it…

The games against Man Utd and Arsenal were immensely enjoyable, more so than any of our Championship games.

If your team is winning regularly it’s going to be fun, but there’s no comparison when you’re up against the elite teams who have single players costing almost all of your first team squad value.

There’s a tension to every game in the PL because even the s*** teams are still capable of winning.

I think bigging up the lower leagues is something you do when you’ve f***ed up and ended up there or failed to get out of. It makes the pain a little easier to see the positives. But it’s a total cop out.

If Middlesbrough get promoted again, this guy will be singing a different tune, guaranteed.

I've been reading Johnny Nic's writing for 15 years and I'm pretty certain he won't.

You only have too look at Sky's pre-game coverage of our game v Everton a couple of weeks back to see how insignificant to the media the 'non elite' are.  95% of the show didn't even mention the game that was following their fawning and hype train.

You got the impression that the game was an inconvenience and they'd much rather be talking about how Kevin de Bruyne patrolled a 15 yard circle of space between the 32nd and 43rd minute of a routine Man City victory.

Boro last season were ultradefensive and still went down, so it leaves you wondering what the point was.

It would certainly be more entertaining if more teams adopted a gung-ho Holloway Blackpool style, at least against teams less likely to punish them for making an open game of it. Realistically that means at least half the teams in the league.

Totally agree with that.

If you want this utopia of winning loads of games every season (regardless of the opposition) and being in a permanent state of happiness. Then surely your aim is 7th spot in the champo. Because you don't want to come up and the following season be a little tougher for you. Being involved as a losing playoff team is too much to take (I still remember the one and only time we were in the playoffs, it hurt like hell to get knocked out by the dirty Mackems). What a life that is ? 20 wins or so is great but still over half your weekends are going to be disappointing, since there are 46 games. If you constantly keep missing out on the playoffs and promotion that'll begin to ebb away at you as a fan base, in the same way and probably a lot worse, than being uncompetitive, yet safe in the PL.

Honestly I lost interest reading that shite after the first few lines, those years in the 80's and 90's where we were down there for way too long were soul destroying. The best part of the last two champo seasons was when we won the game to get us out of that crap. From a selfish perspective, being able to see my team play every week is wonderful, last season was horrendous with so little coverage of that league on Canadian TV.

I can understand the sentiment, and it's true for the majority of clubs, but I like to think of Newcastle as managers like Keegan and Rafa see us. We do belong in the top echelons and we should be striving to reach them rather than settling for less.
