Working within the constraints of PSR, 2 LC finals, 2 CL campaigns and a first trophy in a lifetime, all within the space of 4 years after decades of doing literally nowt, shows a lack of consistency? Sorry, disagree.

We might have been impacted be PSR, but we have bought some very good players for a lot of money and got way more right than most clubs. But it's the LC and the two CL qualifications both came when we didn't have to deal with Europe. I think this has to matter in how we judge it.

People talk about it as if he massively overachieved. We have had some amazing players, arguable for a lot of the last few years one of the best strikers in the world. I would say it's not too far away from expected.

As I said, we have amazing players and who most regarded as the best striker in the world at the time. Might have made a difference... You talk about us as if we are a tiny team where he massively overachieved. I disagree, especially considering our extra motivation and Liverpool's lack of it (possibly).

No team in England (or any major league for that matter) will ever not be 100% motivated for a domestic cup final. Other than money, these players only care about winning as many trophies as possible. If anything, our players would have more nerves considering that it might be their last chance to win something like that, while most of the Liverpool players are used to playing finals. They went through the entire tournament game by game only for that final, and then they somehow weren't 100% motivated to win it?

We can't describe Man City as "must win" or even "must not lose" or anything, but I would describe it as "must not deliver performance that looks like the players just met in the car park for the first time".

Eddie has said many times that the lack of training time and 3 games a week has hindered things a lot. We now have 2 weeks to prepare for Man City, where 7 of the likely starting 11 (minus Bruno, Tonali, Woltemade and Thiaw) are not away on international duty.

We just need to see an obvious marked improvement and coherence to the gameplan from West Ham and Brentford. Even if we end up getting beat.

I agree with what you say.

But to me that won't prove things have changed. Because we always seems motivate ourselves for the big teams at home. I would argue even if we win, it's not until we see improved performances against the mid or bottom teams that we might turn a corner...

Considering they were already champions and looking like they could win the CL, yes I would argue they were not 100% motivated. Anyway, can we stop this discussion. Or do you think that win has given him a free pass for the season almost regardless of how we do?

They had just been eliminated by PSG, all they had left to play for was the final against us.

Sorry what I meant is the PL and CL was all they were really focused on. The LC was a bonus. Even their own fans agree on that. I don't understand why you question that :D

This sensitivity for saying the trophy we won was not the biggest achievement in the world, especially when we have great players and the best striker around at the time. Honestly because of our past people treat it the same as winning the PL or CL. So sorry to offend you or try to wake you up to the reality.

My point again, is just to say it should not give Howe as much credit as Pep got. That's all. I think everyone agreed getting rid of Ange was right for Spurs. Winning a trophy doesn't make you immune and you seriously need to let some of the emotional attachment go if we want to be one of the best clubs in the world. Although luckily our fans are not who makes the decisons for the club.

Aye. They had 1 game of importance left, a final, and they weren't motivated for the game, because they all their focus was on tournaments that were already over before the game.[emoji38]

Ever heard of being down and disappointed? If you just lost your dream job in an interview, would you be just a motivated in the next interview to land just an ok job? Was the best analogy I could give at this late hour.

At 14:25 you can see that Liverpool really didn't care that much about winning the EFL cup in 2024, as the celebrations were calm and collected. In the background you can observe that the Chelsea players weren't really bothered about losing the final. After all it was just a small trophy to them.

We’ve played 11

And it's not even about the losses in itself. It's how we play and how we seem to get worse. Not just this season but as a team almost since his first season here. Really think some of the individual brilliance papered over a lot of cracks last season.

You keep on going mate. You still haven't answered if this win gives Howe a whole season no matter how we do... That was the only point I was trying to make.

Fucking sick of modern football fans + those on the internet who gasp for change for the sake of it ignoring historic body of work and on/off field uncontrollable problems as factors. Classic how this shit has gone on all the time in life these days, nobody wants to just give things time - it’s now now now now, not working for 2 weeks change it now!

Eddie is in Sir Bob and KK legendary territory and whether he choses BDB at left back 4 weeks from now or Joelinton as an 8 in a few weeks should have no baring on his position. We’re in the fucking champions league looking to get the knockout, we’re in the league cup quarters AGAIN, and have a whole damn FA cup campaign to play.

Patience. While we all leave our jobs to post on this forum our manager is likely sat in front of a screen or white board figuring out how to fix our problems on the field. Isn’t that what we’ve always wanted? And during his tenure here he’s got it right every fucking time. When turmoil arises Eddie is the steady hand.

Actually none of us are wanting change to his position right now. Just questioning how long he should get and what are the causes of our troubles. And I think it pisses some of us off that some people have unquestionable loyalty to one person almost over the good of the club.

Describing a first trophy in a lifetime, where we had to beat Forest, Brentford, Chelsea, Arsenal (home and away) and then the eventual easy champions of the country in the final, achieved under the pressure of a second final in 3 years and against the best team in the country at the time, as "about par" is some statement like.

A person who had just come out and admitted he prefers height to footballing ability in trying to win a match. That is seriously concerning and what has triggered me to doubt him more than ever before.

I'll shock you even more. Even if we had won the CL, but still struggled in the league and showed the same signs of problems for a second season, this season arguable a lot worse, then with our ambitions as impressive as that win was, it should not buy him almost unlimited time. I seriously fear for the long term of the club if we keep bringing in more Elanga's or tall physical players, which from the latest words from Howe seems to be a dream of his.

We are of course no there yet, but top top clubs of the world have countless time sacked a manager even after winning a big cup, if the underlying issues persist.

Heard today that a lot of Liverpool fans actually want Slot out now. Because they can see the underlying problems, and that he was possibly helped out by Salah's brilliance last season and the fact that other top teams underachieved. That's what I mean we can't live in a bubble. Just because you win something, it doesn't mean you are the right for the long term. Isn't there a saying, one time lucky or something. Then people can bring up our other LC final (very easy run) and our two CL qualifications (no Europe in any of those seasons and when we have Europe he doesn't know how to handle it).

Overall it was a massive success what he achieved there. I’ve never said it wasn’t. But he got them relegated, he had a side that was overachieving and eventually ran out of steam and couldn’t change things to repeat the successes.

Criticisms were choosing players he trusted rather than changing the side up and losing the pressing style that brought them that success.

Does it not occur that the thing he’s good at, just isn’t sustainable?

Does it not occur to you that he has played somewhat differently than in his Bournemouth days? Back then the line was that his team couldn’t defend if their life depended on it. It’s just a fairly bad faith comparison since you never really do anything more  than take snapshots with your arguments.  You are probably bound to be right one of these seasons, but you’ve been so wildly wrong every year for the last few seasons, and have put out some of the most absolutely mental ideas I’ve seen in the football part of this forum in awhile.

If or when you are eventually right, just remember that it won’t change the fact that you’ve been so wide of the mark up to this  point. I’ll certainly remind you.

Wait did he actually say in those words that he prefers height over footballing ability, or are you distorting his response?

Because following what a lot of entitled Liverpool fans think would be the sensible decision from the owners. Som of your points are so mental. And you accuse others of not being objective. Next you’ll use ChatGPT as evidence that you’re right.  My word.

I can see your point but seriously break the trophy curse for what? 70 years? is something that back at March every fans said “whatever it takes”.

You really don’t need to downplay the achievement in order to prove your point that Howe has questions to answer and he might not be the one that really suits a mega club that needs to challenge multiple competitions with less training and preparation work allowed. I think most of the people here also get it, but given what Howe’s achieved he definitely deserves full backing from every counterparty to turn things around and prove he can do it. In fact it’s harsh and disgraceful to not backing him since arguably he is our best manager for nearly 40 years.

If Howe makes another spending spree and rebuild the team, and we are still sitting close to the relegation zone, I don’t think we need to discuss anymore. PIF will pull the trigger.

We have the 8th biggest wage budget in the league and well below many of our direct rivals. Does that really mean that Howe has failed every season he can't finish in top 5? Not saying that we won't finish there again, there are plenty of games left.

The entitlement is through the roof with you, downplaying Howe's achievements here (a trophy and TWO CL qualifications) with a much cheaper squad than the rivals is insane.
