This is back when the offside law was different - but it was clear as owt that Nielsen wasn’t the intended recipient of a forward pass

Paully is correct, it was disallowed to give US a free kick for one of their players being offside. That's why everyone was so annoyed. 

 

There was no need to blow. If the ref had just waited a half second to see if there was an advantage, we'd have Lee scoring from his own half with his weaker foot.
