Hope him and Thiaw get a run out against Ecuador now it’s a bit of a dead rubber for them.

Can't see it, if I were the manager I'd be starting Undav as he's proved he's in good scoring form coming from the bench.

He was playing for Germany plenty before he got here and during early on.  He's a clever player that a good coach could make use of.

He was playing for Germany U21 before arriving at us, he got his first senior call up whilst a Newcastle player. FFS he only really had 18 months of first team senior football before we’d signed him. We didn’t buy the finished article and people trying to paint his “regression" at international level as being down to Howe are fucking mental

edit - he got his first cap on the 4th of June 2025, but the point still stands that he was not a regular for the German National side prior to his arrival at Newcastle

Undav isn't even some great undiscovered hope, he did very little when he was playing in England. What he does provide is barnstorming runs into the box to get on the end of stuff.

Woltemade is the exact opposite. Nice stuff outside of the box, but not really a natural goalscorer.

What im saying is in the current tournament they're playing on he's got 3 goals from coming off the bench twice. They're qualified now so can try something new - to me the obvious thing to try is to start him and see what he does with 90 minutes.

He'll get a start against Ecuador. He'll have to do something special to get into the conversation for starting the knockouts though. I can see him aimlessly lolloping around outside the box for an hour before he gets the curly finger

But most of his goals were scored within the box and many of them well taken.  The chip against Everton, the flick with outside of the boot into the bottom corner against Chelsea and the first goal as well where he followed up on the rebound, the flick against Brighton plus the headers against Wolves and Arsenal. Also check his goals for Germany.

I don’t subscribe to the theory he doesn’t attack the box naturally. I think he was told to bring others into play and then for some reason we stuck him in midfield as a playmaker when Wissa came back.

I completely agree with you there.

Especially since Nagelsmann really can't lose. If Undav performs poorly, people will say Nagelsmann was right to use him as a substitute. If Undav performs well—which I expect he will—Nagelsmann will be praised for responding to Undav's strong form.

The only thing that might seem illogical is his stubbornness. Nagelsmann is an egocentric person.
