Glenn Hopeful on Defender Decision

if he's a 'top international defender'  why is the club letting him go on loan? can't be that great then

Hmmm, also, why do we need to look at him first before deciding on a loan???

"We know all about him and his playing record but we still want a look at him with the view to a loan deal until the end of the season."

Jebus! How long did it take to offer Sibierski a premanent deal, or to ask Fergie for Rossi?? Had we been scouting them all summer???

MJ

We're putting off paying for anyone because we're skint.

We have 'significant' transfer funds.

Glenn Roeder is trying to bring a top international defender to Newcastle United in the next couple of days.

The United boss is in negotiations with the central defender's club to get him to Tyneside by the weekend with the view to a loan deal.

"We are talking to the player's club and we are hoping they will release him to come here, and we will find out in the next 48 hours.

"We know all about him and his playing record but we still want a look at him with the view to a loan deal until the end of the season."

Bringing an international defender over the Tyne Bridge who the club already knows about.

Welcome back Stevie Caldwell.

I reckon 48 hours is gonna be too long for Skirge.  He's clearly going to send himself completely insane within 36 hours trying to work out who this is from Roeder's comments.

Loan deals are usualy more to do with young up and coming players that cannot break intot eh firstt eam  at their own club so they are loaned out to get soem football under their belts.

But this player is an internatiional player, mind does not say full international, he could be an U21 player.

FC Basel defender Bruno Berner has not travelled with the Swiss club to a training camp in La Manga after he was offered a trial with Blackburn Rovers.

The 28-year-old will now have a chance to impress Rovers manager Mark Hughes, who is looking to strengthen his back line following the departure of Lucas Neill to West Ham.

Blackburn have already brought in full-back Stephen Warnock, but Hughes is thought to want to add further cover in defence.

"The club gave permission for Berner to go for a trial, but we would welcome him back if the English club do not want him," a Basel spokesperson said.

Should Berner be offered a contract with the Premiership side, he would join fellow Swiss player Stephane Henchoz at Ewood Park.

Meanwhile, the Lancashire club are thought to be close to completing the signing of another defender, Hertha Berlin's Christopher Samba.

"We are waiting for the fax to arrive at any minute," Hertha coach Falko Gotz confirmed. "It would be great for him if it works out."
