Coach Allays Owen Injury Fears

By Craig Hope

NEWCASTLE United coach Lee Clark has confirmed that Michael Owen suffered 'nothing more than mild concussion' following a second-half collision with team-mate Matty Pattison at Watford.

The Magpie striker was stretchered from the field in the 66th minute of the season finale at Vicarge Road, but Clark has allayed the fears of the Toon Army who could only have feared the worst given Owen's luck with injuries over the past 18 months.

Clark told Newcastle World TV: "Michael has simply collided with Matty Pattison.

"It was a complete accident and luckily Michael is OK.

"He was a bit dazed but if we had a game next week then Michael would be completely fine and would definitely play."

Sunday's match ended 1-1, Marlon King's second-half penalty cancelling out Kieron Dyer's opener.

Nigel Pearson, in caretaker charge of United for the game, added: "Michael is alright. He has a knock.

"He has mild concussion so it is no problem. He will be able to go home tonight.

"It is something he will have to deal with, people worried about him in such situations, but I can assure you he is in really good nick."

Not only can he manage, play and coach, he's also a qualified doctor. All of that and he is 100% Geordie blood; christ, there's none better than Super Clark. We should give him a new contract
