Is Boateng similar to Essien? if he is, maybe Big Sam is looking to put him RB

Possible new backline:

Kingston Ben-Haim Taylor Boateng

not bad i reckon...100x better than last season tbh

OR (make sure you are sitting down because this is a fucking mental idea) we could play full backs in the full back positions!

I know I am just sooo KER AYY ZEE!

As I support AIK, where he played in Sweden, I promise you that I've seen most of him.

I was at his very first game, away to Halmstad, where he dominated the pitch for the first 30 minutes. He then got a terrible knock on his back and was out for quite a while. When he returned some weeks later, he didn't look like himself. His confident took a few knocks when he didn't meet the standard that was expected from him.

He was left out of the team a lot and put in a transfer request when we got knocked down. He went for a few trials, but nobody wanted him. He then put his head down for our new coach, Rikard Norling, and was immense in the Swedish counterpart to The Championship (standard of course is terrible, but you can only beat what's in front of you). We were promoted much thanks to him and Norling's coaching.

Last season he was absolutely incredible. Doing whatever he wanted on the pitch and won us a fair few games. Still, this is against poor opposition, but he proved himself enough to be in Ghana for the WC. Like I said before, he was real cult-icon here in AIK, people brought Ghana-flags to games and he loved the crowd back, he wore AIK-sweatbands in the WC and against the friendly against Brazil that they played a few months ago.

As for what type of player he is, he is very similar to Emre, imo. He works hard for the team but it's his skill and vision that are his main attributes. Like Emre, he doesn't score a lot of goals nor sets them up, to be honest, but he is still very creative and has great vision. He played his best when playing alongside Tjernström in the middle, who is a defensive/battling midfielder, much like Parker here in his first season.

In my opinion, Boateng would be superb back-up for Emre and who knows, perhaps with the right coaching and in a good team, he could become a regular. But for £1m I don't think we could do much better if we want to have a creative midfielder

Nice post. How is similar to Emre?

Like I said, good touch, good vision, good passing and always tries hard. However, doesn't score enough (although he did score a few good goals).

Edit: And he is absolutely nothing like N'Zogbia. Zoggy is a winger, Boateng a creative/attacking midfielder.

He's way more athletic and combative than Emre would you agree?

Not really, but I think Emre is very combative though.

Derek fucking Boeteng.

This time last week I'd never fucking heard of him. His playing career in Sweden and Greece suggests he has Oguchi written all over him.

To be fair though, he dominated the pitch against Real Madrid as a teenager and he was always too good for the Swedish league

He has a lot of potential that's for sure. And let's face it the price is silly money.

He probably hasn't seen N'Zogbia play, no chance he will have seen Kingston or Boateng!

I just read his wikipedia page which included.

- 2002 Boateng was unable to keep his place in the Panathinaikos squad, and was sent on loan to OFI, another Greek team, in which he had a terrible time.

- The 2004 season saw AIK relegated from Allsvenskan for only the third time in the history of the club. Boateng, the rest of the squad and organisation received massive criticism from both media and AIK fans, requiring police escort from the arena several times when AIK had performed poorly

- The 2005 season was his major breakthrough at his current side. Before the start of that campaign he was deemed an unaffordable expense and used his pre-season training trotting around Europe in search of a new club. He failed in this mission and remained at AIK.

- He was considered unfit by manager Rikard Norling and only got to play regular season matches after committing to an extensive physical training program.

in 2002, boateng was 19.  in 2004, he was 21.  i can certainly see has performances improving with age, as bona fide stars under the age of 22 or so is extremely rare, and it's not unusual for a player to not show his true quality until his mid-twenties

not saying he'll be a star, but at the cost of your typical newcastle injury layoff, he's worth a punt.

Not true...  :nope:

He was really good during one half of a season and got sold because of that. Not like he dominated the league in the same way Källström or Alves did.

Any way I don't think he's coming unless Emre or Dyer leaves.

I like him, he's got a lovely name.

I hate him, he played for the scum of the earth.
