Who's to blame for our Injury Record?

As everyone is well aware the last few years under Souness and Ratty have produced the longest injury list I have ever known!

Hopefully Sam can turn it around this time, but has this been down to the coaching methods, medical staff (Derek Wright and co) , or are we suffering from buying injury prone key players?

If we have another season like last time, I think I'll fucking scream!

For me, I think the stable that was there for all those seasons was the medical staff, is the old team still there or has sam cleared them out?

You are, you cunt!

Seriously though, I think having better training methods will help immensely. Some players are always gonna pick up strains (Owen) and there's nowt you can do about injuries like Barton's.

Should be interetsing to see how many injuries we get this season, maybe we are just cursed?  >:(

Ohhhhh don't say cursed, I got shot down for saying that a while back.

But your right, Bartons injury can happen to anyone, but stuff like strains and basic muscle related injuries i'd hope would be a thing of the past, but look at owen now!

Too many variables to really pinpoint any blame IMO. I reckon all the negativity and lack of positivity around the club has played a part myself, when you're down for whatever reason you more susceptible to picking up colds and such, can that be transfered to groin strains and what not? I know your top sports scientists believe mood and energy forces play a key part in injuries and recovery.

We had problems before Souness, it's just that he whinged about it more than Bobby.

Oh good, a new thread.

I blame all this fucking stretching they all do. If you keep stretching your muscles, eventually you will strain one, it stands to reason. They never used to stretch before games, and no-one was ever injured, apart from that bloke who broke his neck in the cup-final, and played on anyway.

People seem to forget the 2003-4 season was pretty sh*t for injuries as well, and that was under Robson. Remember the end of that season when we lost the likes of Bellamy, Jenas, Dyer & Woodgate to major injuries.

True but who was the physio's back then? Derek Wright and co?

So if it's been crap since then, they are obviously not capable of doing there job!

Oh good, a new thread.

Are you only capable of contributing in a new thread or something?

I just can't be bothered to read the previous 100 posts to get up to speed, and if I don't I just end up saying something somebody else already has.

it wouldnt hurt them to warm up properly before matches. its quite embarrassing to see teams like fulham and wigan having well thought out pre match routines and us just kicking a ball back and forward and generally pissing about.

on a bigger scale, i think its the lackluster training methods/ability of coaches.

Would injury prevention come under the physio's remit though?

Everyone plays their part really, from the dietitians, physios, fitness and coaching staff. They have to all work closely together though to make sure they do everything that's best for each player, especially when recovering from an injury. I think Sam and his 'war room' will go down really well considering that.

All in all I think it's just a mixture of bad luck & bad moral.

I would have thought recovery times and trying to stop the injury recurring would be a part of their job.

The people we've sent to specialists outside the club have often recovered very well. Bellamy's knees were sorted out in the states, Shearer was sorted over there as well. Both returned fine. Real Madrid seem to have sorted Woodgate's fitness out.

I really think the club should take a good look at its medical staff, because the likes of Derek Wright have been there since Bobby's days and we had some serious injuries back then (we lost the UEFA Cup semis to Marseille because we put out a load of kids).

If we keep getting these sorts of injuries we'll go down eventually. No club can sustain losing up to 15 players for a game (that's how many we had out against Chelsea), we only survived relegation by 5 points last season and we had more jammy victories than unlucky defeats. If we don't sort it out we'll never get anywhere. I don't believe that much "bad luck" can happen to one club, something's not right and until we sort it out it'll keep happening.
