  1. They're balls. The worst thing they did was bring in a catenaccio-style manager. Grinding out results is nee way to make friends when you're sitting on piles of cash. It's like that bloke in the pub who every knows is loaded but never buys a round and counts his pennies out on the bar.

funnily enough THEY WANT TO WIN SOMMAT

as opposed to being popular or attractive - like us

  2. The McKeags were small time local solicitors who used to have an office at the city end of Jesmond Road - there was very little gentlemanly about their behaviour - i don't think the old man ever put a cent into the Club

Lord Westwood looked the part but when asked to sign a guarantee in the early 80's for about £16k he resigned - it was a lot of money then - say £ £50k today but given what he and his old man had taken out over the years it was a bloody disgrace

  3. I hope we are not going to get the usual media cry that we missed out because the rest of the world is corrupt or no one likes us etc.

It will sound like sour grapes and makes us look like a bunch of whingers if we go down that road.

Britain won the bid for the Olympics, the rugby world cup is coming here in 2015 and we get major football matches and big events staged here in every thing from motor racing to golf.

There are 200 countries or so in the rest of the world, we get our share of the big tournaments.

We are a relatively small country and so we can't expect to get everything.

bang on - we knew the rules and who was voting when we went in for it

  4. Shepherd was right. Their shithole wasn't fit to stage the tie. 2 turnstiles for approximately 2000 away fans was a joke which led to hundreds not getting in until well into the match thus missing Shearer's goal.

Fat Fred did enormous damage to our reputation with his actions

At least we learnt the lesson and when we played Yeading we treat them properly - slagging off a non-league team 'cos it has a grotty ground is just ridiculous

  5. "It would be a massive boost to the local economy and could help create much needed jobs here"

    What new jobs?

A couple of midweek games at SJP and the SoS??????

The tickets will be sold to local punters and the cash goes straight to FIFA in Zurich

Maybe hotels in Newcastle may be able to hike their rates up on a couple of nights and BA and the train people will gut anyone booking a trip to-from London on those days but I doubt we'd get owt else

All studies about the so-called benefits of sporting fixtures and new grounds show very little benefit

In fact a lot of non-interested people steer clear  - as we'll see in Olympic Year
