That was definitely a punch Was expecting a little tap judging by the comments on here. So needless.

It's not contagious.

There is, the league table thing already happens as well, think Pulis just wants it to be public.

http://tvnz.co.nz/2010-fifa-world-cup-news/fifa-referees-got-96-percent-right-3638147 Not independent but probably about right.

But it's getting worse, and people can clearly see that. Btw, I think the FA are totally to blame for all of this. What's your solution then?
-
Incidentally, when I used to referee, there was a club who used to give me marks out of 10/10 every week so that I'd get promoted and wouldn't have to ref their games anymore
-
It's already done through a combination of club marks and assessor marks, just having it done on club marks is a crackers idea like. Managers are perhaps the least reasoned people in the world when it comes to refereeing decisions.
-
That does already happen (though it's usually one or two each year)- Stroud, Tanner, D'Urso and a few others have all been dropped in the past few years.

Pretty fair assessment really.

He paid thousands for it as well.

Why would the referee play advantage in the teams own penalty box? The only time advantage really applies is when calling the foul would prevent the team from continuing attacking play. This isn't the case when a striker commits two yellow card offences in the opposing team's box. Really, I'd be a lot more inclined to give referees slack as far as these goals where players place the ball for freekicks if they hadn't benefited the two biggest teams in England. Most keepers can kick further from their hands than they can from the floor as they can use their whole penalty box- it's pretty common to play advantage if the keeper has it in his hands, especially if there's a break on. Once Gomes had put the ball on the floor he probably should have blown though.

Shows that refs need to be stronger or more aware. If felipao was right, it looks like Gomes DID think he was playing to the whistle. Was it my imagination, or was the linesman doing that hand covering mouth thing, even though Ferdinand was right next to them and so could presumably hear everything he said? The hand to mouth thing is for the TV cameras I think. Ferdinand should have been booked for being there as well.

I'm hoping that Clattenburg was playing an advantage from the handball rather than not seeing it, although the common sense thing to do would have been to pull it back after Gomes cocked it up. Shows that you need to play to the whistle though!

He'd be the most boring football manager in history.
-
Well that's me convinced.

What's wrong with that? I want him to read the score out regularly but he doesnt. Oops, misread it, thought you were complaining that he was reading it out!
-
My guess is that it wasn't worth 4 days at Crown Court and they went for a shorter trial. Is that possible? I think Carroll pleaded guilty, which would mean a shorter trial (as you wouldn't need cross-examining of witness etc).
-
In this case he did. It's awarded to the person FIFA consider the best referee in the world- he had an excellent tournament, no-one could have refereed that final well.
-
To be fair to Webb, you don't get to ref the World Cup Final unless you're a decent ref.
-
Bet people will say Clattenburg is best, just cos he's never reffed Newcastle!
