I can accept he needed to do it but his reaction afterwards pissed me off. He tried to slink off into the crowd so he wouldn't get spotted and then tried to claim that it was someone else. Wish he'd just have handled it then fucked off down the tunnel. Never seen a game where he hasn't cheated.

Quality fake Andy Townsend twitter feed. 'Sweepstake in the studio on what nationality Marcel Desailly will pretend to be if Ghana go out. I've got Spain' 'I've just been woken up by Kevin Keegan playing a Vuvuzela. I tell you what, you just can't legislate for that'

Ticket prices have been extortionate all tournament, the locals have been priced out.
-
Why only mention it now as well when people have been referring to it like that for weeks?

He's still there, not been given a last 8 game but they think he will probably get a semi final. Said on the Guardian podcast they usually pick the best ref from the last 8 to do the final. If rumours are to be believed he was originally appointed to the Uruguay-Ghana game tonight but there was an objection by the Uruguayans (because of the England-Germany game), so he's still in the mix.
-
Nah, Webb will probably get a semi or the final. That corner though, fucking hell.
-
He's from Argentina so probably not!

What was that Keefaz?

That linesman was the same one who got the calls right in Italy v Slovakia- having a great tournament!
-
Is it just me or did ITV not show the Slovakia goal there in the highlights?
-
Ref and linesman definitely saw it, the linesman looked absolutely gutted; think they were limited in what they could do about it though.
-
Did you notice that as soon as there was any disagreement between the pundits Chiles moved it onto Desailly? It's like there has to be one opinion across all of them

He's the only Englishman who's done a decent job this World Cup!
-
They were waiting for a break in play to show it I think- then Mexico scored. Didn't look in to be, would be interested to see the replay too though.

'When you talk about the top corner, that is the top corner' Cheers, Mark.

Christ, great strike.

You wait until Thailand gets there and gets f***ed over. It's completely different when it's your team, man. I mean, I'm not hurt by this Mexico call, but I can imagine how the Mexicans feel. It's crazy that some asshole with a flag can destroy four years of preparation with his incompetence, and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it. Surely players make mistakes as well though? Is it so different than an asshole in a USA shirt or an asshole in an Argentina shirt destorying a cup with incompetence? Yes. Obviously. So we expect imperfect players but perfect referees? It's not possible. Either we have video replays for every decision or we accept human error.

Showing the replay is pretty harsh on Mexico as well, it's really distracted them.

Because the game would have to be replayed- it's happened before! But the game hadn't restarted at that point. He could still change his mind to the correct decision, we have seen similar things happen with referee's changing their minds with penalties and such. This game should be replayed in anyway, the damage is done, just like earlier today. That is referees changing a decision because of his assistant though- not a big screen. Referees CANNOT use video technology in a game- it's totally against the rules. As I said above, say Mexico score a goal now, does the guy put it on the big screen then? You're setting a dodgy prescedent.

Think it through logically though- say Mexico score a goal which was offside in the second half, does the guy put it on the big screen then? Or accept it as a one-off? Ref couldn't do anything else there sadly.
-
Even though it was a poor decision, they can't change it after seeing ot on the screen- the game would have to be replayed.

Fucks sake, I thought Garth Crooks wasn't at this World Cup.

All incidents? As in every foul/throw in/corner? How long would that take? At least think it through man. Go to an international rugby match and see. Alternatively, watch Wimbledon, duh. Rugby games only do it for incidents in-goal though, not for anything else (like forward passes or knock-ons in field). And tennis only does it for line decisions. You need some sort of cut-off point, otherwise it'd be ridiculous!
