When you are playing a deep formation with counter-attacking intention, it takes a lot of precision and technique in tight spaces. Then you have players like Ritchie who don't have the pace to counter either. I don’t think it was a tactical decision for our ball retention to be absolute turd. Not really. Seen far worse. We defended really well. Still we let in 2. Rather we have a go and lose, than not trying at all. This game was lost before it started. Missing Shelvey and leaving Lascelles obviously didn't help, but this was shocking. Not much fun watching us park the bus, but we'd have got mullered if we went toe to toe with them. Always wonder how cup upsets even happen. Do league two teams just sit back and hope for a 0-0 against premiership teams?
