  1. Newcastle United still have business to complete in this summer’s transfer window - despite the arrival of Facundo Ferreyra on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Magpies are still actively on the look out for a defender, another forward and potentially a younger goalkeeper after signing Ferreyra.

United thrashed out a deal for the 23-year-old before setting off for Germany. A fee of £1.6million was agreed but it could result in a permanent move costing Newcastle £6.4million.

Nicknamed ‘Chucky’ he is refusing to play for Shakhtar because of the political unrest in Ukraine.

The player scored six goals in just eight appearances last season and Ferreyra has recently apologised for not playing for Shakhtar during this time.

He said: “First and foremost, I want to apologise to them (the fans) and the president of our club.

“I hope what is happening in Donetsk will soon end. And we, the players, will do everything possible to give our fans more reasons for joy.

“My family was very worried about me and persuaded not to go to Ukraine. They thought it was very dangerous.

“So I decided not to go back. But on the second day I regretted it. My fears were dispelled by a conversation with the club CEO Sergei Palkin. He calmed me down and assured that all of us would be safe.

“Plus other players have returned and all of them were fine. I really regret that I have not come immediately. I apologise to the fans, my team-mates and coach.”

  2. Former Sunderland star Kevin Kyle works 12-hour shifts as storeman on ferry to provide for his family

Reformed gambler Kyle has traded a lavish £10,000-a-week career with Sunderland and Rangers for stacking boxes and cleaning toilets.

The 33-year-old now earns just £800-a-fortnight - a fraction of his former paypacket - working onboard a fleet of ships in the Shetland Islands designed to cater for offshore workers.

And sources claim managers on board the 300-capacity ship have warned his new workmates not to discuss the goalscorer’s former life as a footballer.

When he was contacted by the Chronicle’s sister paper the Daily Record Kyle, who once admitted blowing £7000 a week on a gambling addiction, he said: “I’m trying to provide for my family.”

Stranraer-born Kyle works on the Regina Baltic ship in Lerwick’s remote Mairs Quay - a 16-hour, 400-mile trip from his former home at Ibrox.

Our amazing images show Kyle working a 12-hour shift for employers Sodexo, stacking boxes and chatting with friends over a tea-break in the communal room.

A source said: “Kevin started work on the ship earlier this month. It’s sad really to see someone who was obviously well-loved by the fans seemingly ending his career relatively early.

“He’s a good lad and everyone gets on with him but he now has to work gruelling shifts and cater for other people - it must be quite a turnaround from his previous life.

“He doesn’t want to talk about his career as a footballer. His managers told people not to mention it.”

  3. I can't see us getting Benteke or spending the cash needed to get him. I can however see him wanting a move, he wanted a move last summer and Villa never improved any and this summer look awful in the transfer market.  His current injury will surely affect any potential moves for him though?

  4. I'd get rid of Taylor or Williamson and go all out for Shawcross or Caulker. Think 4 senior centre-backs is about right, we just need more quality there.

Coloccini & Mbiwa for one slot, Shawcross/Caulker as first choice for the other slot with Taylor or Willo as back up to him.

If Caulker is not interested in signing for Arry, we should be trying to punt Taylor to him (seeing as he is supposedly a fan) and that would finance a move for the likes of Caulker.

  5. Manchester City are willing to accept a knockdown fee for Micah Richards.

The defender, 26, made just two Premier League appearances for the club last season and has one year remaining on his contract.

The league champions are open to offers that would include significant add-ons based on appearances, given his injury history.

A source close to Richards said they were relaxed about the situation but acknowledged he was unlikely to stay.

Birmingham-born Richards has been with City since the age of 14 and made his England debut in 2006, aged 18.

He was linked with a £20m move to a host of top clubs in 2011 but a number of injuries and the emergence of Pablo Zabaleta as City's first-choice right-back limited his opportunities.

The arrival of Bacary Sagna on a free transfer from Arsenal appears to have weakened his position still further.

Newcastle United, Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked with a move for Richards in recent weeks and may now step up their interest

26 years old, give him a good run in the side and if he shows any kind of consistent form, being English, his value will shoot.  Cha Ching Ashley's a winner!

  6. I'm watching Stoke f***ing City and Im jealous.  What has the world come to. Kudos to Sparky Hughes.

Did we not make an approach for him in 2008?  If Pardew does go I could see him being another on Ashleys shortlist.

  7. Given Moyes' record at signing defenders, it's funny that they've sacked him before he could buy any. You can't blame him for not buying any already, because Smalling, Jones, Evans, Rafael are all full internationals.

    Seamus Coleman  60,000

    Sylvain Distan    5,000,000

    Phil Jagielka      4,000,000

    Leighton Baines  6,000,000

Lescott bought for 5,000,000 sold for 22,000,000, which covers the cost of the above. Rogers paid 15M on Sahko alone. Yobo cost 1,000,000 and made nearly 200 appearances.

Whilst he never signed them he also had Stubbs and Weir playing as a fantastic defensive partnership particularly in the 04/05 season.

  8. Please just get rid.  I know we will still continue to have Ashley and Co in charge and have bigger problems on the whole but the chore of watching Pardews teams/tactics week in week out is brutal....

  9. Another whose career has probably suffered from being at this club and under idiots like Pardew.  I never thought for a minute he would turn out to be a world beater but he had looked in the past to have had some of the attributes to become a better player.  You just need to look at Cabaye, Mbiwa, Debuchy, Sissoko, Cisse etc and how they all look worse players than they did when they joined to know that none of the young players coming through will ever advance as players in the current set up.

  10. I want Pardew replaced as much as anyone, but for this saying they would take Kinnear just think back to this game http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1090832/Newcastle-2-Stoke-2-Kinnear-dock-Faye-late-strike.html  Probably the biggest balls up of dropped points of the entire relegation season.  Team was cruising in the first half, an injury to Danny Guthrie and Kinnear decides to move 4 players out of position for the second half which resulted in headless chickens that threw away what should have been an easy win.  The man is a lunatic and a dinosaur of a manager.

I also don't want him taking over as I honestly think his heart couldn't take it, the result of which could be horrific.

Yeah, there were many horror shows but that's always the one that sticks in my mind. Geremi (then Cacapa) and Jonas at CM in a 4-4-2.

Habib Beye was on the wing too I think?

  12. Do people still think it was a great move to replace Nolan with Cabaye? Not saying either way here, just after opinions.

Whilst Nolan had some good attributes, was a great leader and one of the biggest goal threats we have had in recent years I was often frustrated with feeling we were over ran and over exposed in midfield with him not having much of an engine and pushing forward so much.  The irony of this now looking back was that even though back then it felt that Tiote was being left with so much to do, we also so the best of him with that partnership.

I don’t have any doubt that Cabaye has the attributes to be a top player at a good club but given our set up, tactics and clueless manager we probably would have been better off with what Nolan could bring to the team

  13. We need additional players through the door, but f*** me I'd be so much more confident if we had someone in charge who could get the best out of what we've got. f***ing defeatist c***.

I still don't think we have that bad a team/squad.  Any half decent manager should be able to get this team to play to a much higher standard but Pardew is just now negative and his fear of losing transfers both on the pitch but also to us the supporters who go in to games like this expecting to getting hammered before a ball is kicked.  Christ, can you imagine Keegan with our current squad he would be going out there tonight for a win and have both the players and us the supporters believing we could.  His interview before kick off against Man United on the opening day of the season (in his second spell) done exactly that, I sat believing we could win and we gave it a good go.

I am not for one minute saying I would take him or that he is good enough but even the likes of Holloway is the opposite of the nightmare that is Pardew.  He would send his Palace (or his old Blackpool side out) out trying to play for a win and with belief.  Ashley and what he is doing to the kill the club is another matter, but Pardews negativity is killing my love of the game.
