  1. AVB shouldn't have been sacked.

Why did Sherwood do much better then?

Villas Boas would have got them 6th if he'd been there all season quite easily imo. Got 5th the year before with a record number of points.

I reckon that Gary Beale or whatever he's called might have played a part in that, Spurs started the season like we ended it. Goals were these mythical creatures that could only be killed by sunlight, silver bullets or wooden stakes.

  2. Proven = barely played.

Never claimed he was class, good or even half decent. The fact is we don't currently have a single fit forward that Pardew will play up front so if this lad is available on the cheap I'd rather give him a change than no-one at all. We aren't going to shell out on a load of strikers who will instantly fit in and score goals, that is one of the few thing I am comfortable of.

Sign him and play him = relegated no thanks

    We're fucked either way tbh.

  4. Said it before but look at some of his YouTube videos, unless they make different footballs in Holland the lad can definitely belt a ball into the back of a net.

He might not work out here, in fact I think there is a good chance he won't but there is more chance we won't sign anyone at all. I would rather we took the relatively low gamble on a 23 year old who was deemed to be worth £13m not that long ago than no one at all.

So you think we should sign him over not signing anyone.

    Insightful.

    So what are your thoughts?

  6. I'm not saying we should throw the transfer budget the at the lad but we clearly aren't going to fork out on a load of strikers and the lad hasn't exactly done enough demand a significant loan fee. If we can get him for a season at little to no cost we may as well as he was once very highly rated, is still young and isn't going to stop us getting better players in.

  7. Might actually get a chance as central striker next season, not because that's his position though, because we have nobody else.

    We'll be getting relegated then.

He would have been better than anyone who played central striker this season (the stats back this up). We need to replace Remy who was better wide left.

I like Gouffran as a player, and he could do a job as a secondary striker, but as if we were to rely on him to be our main striker next season we'll be fighting relegation.

Pardew definitely needs another Ba/half season Cisse/Remy, as it stands Gouffran is our main goal threat and should not be used as a defensive player.

I'm not going to argue that he's been misused, he's obviously not a left back or a left winger, but if you ask me whether he's capable of being our front line striker next season, I'm going to say no. Just based on what I've seen of him, he looks like a decent squad striker at best.

This still based on the one cup game he was given up front?

  8. I think Ashley and Pardew both don't want to spend

Ashley because he hates us and we are purely a business to him to make money not spend it . I believe it's a bigger badge of honour for Ashley to boast to his city banker mates that he is the only chairman in the premier league that makes money.

Pardew because the more money he spends the more pressure he will have to finish higher up the league and all the pundits can't say "he's done a great job with limited funds" the money is there this summer but I think we all know it won't be spent

 Wullie absolutely nailed it in his article about Pardew. Bet Pardew was waking up in cold sweats the season he finished 5th and got manager of the season. He has managed to get expectations at rock bottom again though and following that up with a top 10 finish is exactly where he wants to be. After a promising start I have to take my hat off to him in how he managed to slam the brakes on and get the expectations back to an all time 'meh!'.

  9.

I still don't see the reasoning behind giving Pardew any more control over transfers. Except Ashley's capacity to make catastrophic mistakes.

IMHO Ashely is a bit thick, and pardew has managed to bullshit him that our woes lie

in the fact he's not getting "his" players and he's convinced him if he's allowed to do this he'll keep us up on the cheap. A guess obvs

Hes not thick. Just has no idea about football.

Bit of both IMHO. He's just a chancer. Chanced his arm at retail. Buy bulk sell cheap is hardly rocket science.

If it was that easy we'd all be billionaires. Ashley knows how to run a successful business and destroy the competition. Unfortunately we were a pet project he simply gave up on and now basically can't be arsed with. He gets his main business a lot of exposure and as long as we are mid-table plodders he is happy.

Pardew is the luckiest manager in football.

  10. It's that  or go back to some crap side in France. He's not got much leverage to kick off.

Apart from being played out of position the entire season, still, he was only our 3rd highest goalscorer scoring something like 6 goals in 6 consecutive home games from a wide defensive midfield position but we should send the useless cunt back to France and hope that Papiss "ruined by playing about 3 games on the right" Cisse finds form.

Are you OK, Jon? Seriously? This isn't the type of guff I'd have expected from you a year back but it's happening more and more these days.

Not sure how to even answet this, so you don't feel he has any reason to feel aggrieved? Or you feel our centre forwards have done so well he hasn't deserved a shot there?

  11. Would take Best back.

    Serious?

    Yes, he's better than, erm..

    erm...

    erm....

We actually don't have a fit player who Pardew would play up front do we? Sadly that isn't sarcasm or a joke, at this moment in time we don't have a player Pardew would play as a striker who is fit.
