What would you do with my mate then? no idea......one thing i would be doing is focusing on those who could turn out that way, starting froma young age.
-
he has no get up and go,isn't the sharpest tool in the box...why ? the waiveing of rent makes him £55 better off,but the council £55 worse off.no doubt you'll rattle off a few things where money can be saved or is wasted then i'll come back with a few where money should be spent or is deesperatly needed instead of giving your mate a free ride.

I said the environment can play a role, positive or negative. I do agree that essentially, it boils down to what you make of your lot. But I don't know, I think it's a two way thing regarding estates like that. I also agree it goes far deeper than that. The rot set in at some point and instead of being stabilised and reversed, it's spread and engulfed areas like that. I wouldn't be fooled by the jobs market myself like. There may seem like there are millions of jobs available but it's not so easy as that. Anyone can get a job at Burger King for example. Not a job to be sniffed at if you have zero qualifications or anything about you. But I'll take you back to an old mentality in these areas: "you would better off on the dole" I'm not saying that btw, that's how a lot of people would look at a job like Burger King, or stacking shelves, or whatever. re jobs market...that gets to a catch 22 situation, how do you make it worthwhile ? give them more money that the job is worth which in turn pushes other wages up or cutting their dole money perpetuating the lack of hope bit ? then again a lot of these kids seem to think a job like that is beneath them when quite often is it all a good few of them are capable of. (my best man is a small businessman, both in stature and company size and we read through the job applications, hilarious and frightening in turn)

just wished he'd develop an instinct for when hes in space, seemed to first touch it back whenever he was more than 30yds out no matter how much room he had. thread title should read either "fraser 0-0 liverpool" or "liverpool hammer newcastle reserves 0-0"

cowgate is a great example, the buildings themselves aren't so bad,on the edge of the moor, playing fields within walking distance, even a small sports centre. if those that lived there took care or an intrest in their environment we wouldn't be having this conversation. tiburon, i think it was you before saying the people in those places have little hope. if so that is something deeper than an environmental cause, primarily parental and educational. jobs are easier to come by now than probably any time in the last 30yrs for those with the basic skills.

i actually have no answers,at times there is a dark part of me that thinks it may be easier to forget the scroats as they are too far gone and try and concentrate on their kids.

not so much racilal tensions as those between an underclass and those above it in the scheme of things. There are both those tensions, more so racial (at both ends of the color/race spectrum) in my experience, especially in Benwell and Elswick. Again, mark my words there will be big kick-offs soon. It only takes one incident to spark it all off and everywhere you look there is trouble brewing. Just to use an example off the top of my head. The complete traffic mayhem on Wednesday and Friday's on Elswick Road with the Mosque. I've been past that stretch many a time where one street in particular is blocked off due to cars. If someone had a heart attack they'd have to be carried down the street to an Ambulance which wouldn't be able to get into the street. Now imagine if that person died? A white person? The polis already operate on those days to help congestion and to also keep the peace between those going to the Mosque and residents around that area. People have been abused, cars have been scratched and fights have happened. The prevailing opinion among the white people is that if they parked their cars like that, they'd be clamped or moved by the polis. There is huge resentment brewing. Then there is the ghetto like streets in Benwell. It's a sad state of affairs because the locals have had massive immigration forced onto their doorsteps. In areas where people are being dispersed and homes demolished, when they see a black family from Africa for example getting a 5 bedroom house they resent this. They see foreigners driving around in cars, they don't work, where are they getting the money from? Things like this stoke the flames and build resentment and in worst case scenarios, sheer hatred. The BNP have activists in these areas too which will only make things worse. The whole immigration thing just highlights the total ineptness of the powers that be. But then what do they care? Most of them don't have to live there or can escape it. Wonder how the residents of Jesmond would react if all the new immigrants from Benwell and Elswick were moved to their neck of the woods. People don't want it nor need it, the areas can't cope and there isn't a thing that can be done about it. To speak up and voice concern makes you a racist. But that's the world we live in today. that really has little to do with racism though...shit parking happens in my street every day (twice i've dragged folk out the post office to shift their cars as the wife couldn't drive down let alone an ambulance and every day,no kidding there is just room to get a car through) the peple at the bottom need someone to blame

Shows how little people understand then. The performances were being booed, the decisions, the situation. That doesn't equate to "NUFC fans want Big Sam out after 5 minutes". If anything he enjoyed more support than not and away fans always sang his name. People were shocked when he was sacked and many wondered whether it was the right thing to do. the away fans turned at wigan. and if this forum can be used as a gauge around half wanted him out and lots of the remainder wanted him gone in the summer

End of the road for Gordon Brown, hopefully. f****** hell...nationalising a bank. What a complete bollocks he is...and as for that human-badger-hybrid Alistair Darling, what a total jockey. Dismayed, I really am. still rather them than cameron and osbourne. Aye, not much of a choice really is it? Like choosing between amoebic or bacilliary dysentry. err aye,if you say so. was thinking more along the lines of a rock and a hard place.

aye, recognised that after a few reads. i did change my reply when i ralised. all owners/chairmen lie or need to "clarify" what they mean.
-
all chairmen/owners either lie or have to "clarify" what they meant.

and you are protesting about a board thats been in not much longer and has provided ample for the manager...fickle and you know it. you know what the problem with allardyce was....absolutly no sign or hope of improving, whats the problem with your owners who have continued to fund the manager ?>
-
so ? d'you think when NUFC fans complained about allardyce it made a difference what it was about ? even worse, protesting about a board who spent how much in the summer ? think of the grief we got for complaining about allardyce's performances in comparisson.

cowgate used to be a nice area till they move ina lot of scummers from elswick/scotswood,years ago according to my parents, under that very idea of dispersal. look at cowgate now.

The annoying thing is that we get slagged off for criticising managers who do nothing for us and get us no where near winning anything. Their fans wont get criticised for slagging off a manager who won them the Champions League and the FA Cup. I know he does nothing for them in the premiership but he has still won them 2 cups in, what is it, 3/4 years. the annoying bit is,after reading this mornings papers the flak for them is nowt to we had to put up with. last paragraph in the independent "they booed the team off and nearly a thousand staged a protest" wll to wall SSN coverage if we do that.

Get a f**king grip. babayaro apparently only found out his brother had died 12 hrs before the maych.................and played.
-
No, that's not naive and young. Just a bit thick. How is it "just a bit thick" It's thick because you said this: "If a member of my family died, i think one of the best things for me to do would be get on a football pitch and just concentrate on playing and forget off the field issues at the time." It's not just about you, y'see. It's the rest of the family, it's the friend's of he/she who died, it's having the wind knocked out of you if they're someone close. If your mum or dad died, you think you'd be in the best of places mentally to do a good job of anything, let alone play football? What if you were playing for Arsenal and an opposition fan shouted "haha, at least my <your relative recently dead> is still alive!" - because I'd probably try to do something to that t*** that makes Cantona's flying kick seem like a cuddle. each to his own. there is no set way for how you will feel or how you should behave. babayaro played days after his brother died, some may need weks.
-
interesting that you point out the "unique history" then go on to name more bloody immigrants. our culture isn't dying but changing as it always has and yes you are right about the remoteness meaning were a bit more resistant change but as time progresses so must we. i get more pissed off when i see a local shop close to be replaced by a next or superdrug, all towns and cities are beginning to look the same (thank god for grainger town, which we must start using better).

That's not actually true. Thus far, O'Neill has spent very little money. If you looked at the net spend of clubs last season, I bet Villa are in the bottom 7 or 8. Bottom 19... http://www.purelymancity.com/wp-content/5yearspendingtablefeb08.jpg Different story this season tho... http://www.purelymancity.com/wp-content/0708Premierleaguetransf.jpg very interesting to note what happened when we started spending less than our rivals. almost as interesting as who was on the board when it happened ?
-
you lot are far too cynical.think about it,fat fred would love to take the club back on and mackems.gif must be nearing his pension, now if he took the large lump sum option.....................
-
I bet you can prove that, not. Anyway, you're getting into a bit of a corner in this so I'll try and leave it if you are willing to do the same. I know you care about the club but I honestly think you'll gain a little satisfaction if it goes tits up and you get to say "I told you so." I'd prefer to say that to you and I really think it will take the shine off things for you if I'm able to say it to you because we've done well. That's the way you come over on here, rightly or wrongly. I can't prove anything any more than you can. I could be flippant here, and say that as you think our board pre-1992 was "just the same" as the one after, then you are the one who wouldn't mind too much if we are relegated. But because I think it is quite clear that that they were absolute s****, and we have had a good board ever since this time that have left the club miles and miles superior to how they found it, I can state quite categorically that it would be, in my view and backed up by everything I say, a total disaster. Thats not the way you come across, its what you actually say. Why are you ignoring the point about Gazza, Waddle and Beardsley. This is the 3rd time To be fair Waddle was, and remains, a complete and utter t***. 'You only get fish and chips in Newcastle'. Both Gazza and Beardsley went for the money (with the board's support) but Beardsley also for the career. true, they WANTED to go, they wanted to leave the club they supported, because the club was s**** from top to bottom. Is the correct answer. Preceded over a decade earlier by Pop Robson, who went to sodding WEST HAM............for the same reason which has nowt to do with now (as i doubt you'll find anyone who thinks fat fred and cohorts only done bad like you try to make out people think). if we had a gazza, waddle or beardsley in the last 3 or so years they would have gone the same way. I doubt it. why stay at a club obviously treading water ?.....then as now precisely. And why join a club if better clubs that are playing in europe etc want you instead ? were you in a coma while the last couple of years passed ?

No, that was not my whole point. Re-read my posts. I see your point but I don't think people would piss and moan if the council decided not to spend a few quid on doing up houses for example, if anything taking over people's houses for up to 5 weeks to skim a few walls and fit a few cupboards has done more to piss people off. And why are people scummy? Take a look around the area. There are places in Bosnia that look more peaceful. The area is depressing, demoralising and trashy. An environment like that can't be healthy. If you are what you eat... the same applies, no? I'm a great believer in people and while there are a lot of lost causes in these areas, you can't tell me people are happy living in such conditions, young or old, and don't want better lives for themselves and their kids? By breaking up communities, dispersing people and trashing whole streets into wasteland, they've created a mess of what was once a sound place to live, work and play. Aye it was always rough compared to places like Gosforth etc. but I have lived here all my life as a bairn and as an adult and I've never known it to be like it is today, just a sheer s*** hole that's getting worse by the day. and why are the people scummy ? don't know, sociologists and psychologists will argue for ever and not agree but i think yoiu are getting things the wrong way round....the environment they are in isn't creating them...they are creating it. i live further out in westerhope, brought up in newbiggin hall and spent a bit time in lemington ansd in my experience there are plenty who like nowt better than to s*** in their own nest. maybe the council hit on the idea of "if we tart their houses up they may look after them" and that may be a start to making the local environment better. i agree about the breaking up communities as it sometimes spreads the s*** to other areas which is unfair on those. what you describe about it being more savage is happening up and down the country in areas where the council have made changes and in those that have been left. chez...the train is supposed to be going up to bedlington in next year then extended to blyth the year after I disagree Madras, I believe the environment they are in is creating them or if not is keeping them trapped. Ever since the council started to demolish homes and dispersing people, things have progressively gotten worse. If you can trace a timeline it would lead all the way back to that. What saddens me today in particular is that kids today are missing out on what I experienced as a kid which I'm sure helped shape me for the better despite hailing from a rough area and you could say starting from a disadvantage, and what I'm referring to is the community. When I was a kid the streets were always full with kids which forced you to interact with others, to form friendships, to become sociable and this forced kids' parents to become pally too. What ensued was a tightnit community that looked out for one another. I was never bored as a kid which meant I was always having fun and when you're having fun you're happy. Kids today are ultra bored and desensitised to fun and happiness. There is no such thing as community today and I feel nothing but sadness for today's kids who will dangerously be our next generation. I fear for society I really do. what you describe is happening up and down the country in areas where the councils are pro active and in those where they dont care. i know environment can affect peoples behaviour but i also know that some will destroy whatever they get. that "some" appears to be getting more numerous
