And the ROI. Eh? The Home International championship is England, Scotland, N.Ireland and Wales. Both Irelands, Wales, and Scotland were in the process of organising a 'Celtic nations' tournament. The revised Home International would simply be us tacked onto that proposed competition. From what I understand. "Celtic nations" tournament? That sounds like some kind of religious based tournament to me and if that's the case I'd sooner England didn't bother getting involved in such rubbish, mate. Anyway, the bloke asked what the Home International Championship is ( or was, really ) and for a century it involved England, Scotland, N.Ireland and Wales, so traditionally that is the composition of the tournament. If a competition is formed that doesn't have that group of nations then the Home Internationals has been brought back, a new competition will have been formed that needs a new name. This isn't being pedantic either. It's about tradition and there is a tradition to the competition that goes back decades. Include foreigners like the Republic of Ireland if that's what people want, but it then needs another name. Just my opinion. Yeah, sorry for the confusion I thought he was talking about the one that might be played next summer. Before the creation of N.Ireland, I believe the Home Internationals were played with Ireland anyway, so it's not true to say their inclusion would be completely against the spirit of the competition even though they are a independent nation now.

I don't think he'd turn it down if we gave him permission to talk to the FA. No, I don't suppose he would.

The impression I got from his interview on SSN was that he wasn't saying that he didn't want it for any other reason than he was under contract. Well, he's hardly going to turn down the England job if he was currently unemployed.

Clearly he is talking about the relative merits of the players. If you think the Sunderland players are s*** then try playing against them one day. Then you might see what s*** really is. In international terms he is quite correct. Many of them are s***. Not a player on the pitch who could lace Keanes boots tbh. Rubbish. I don't believe it. You might not, however, performances tend to suggest otherwise. Brazil's performances in the 2006 World Cup would suggest their team's full of s*** players, I'm pretty sure it's not, like. No it wouldn't. You're taking a ludicrously simplistic view. If you believe that side last night was full of international class footballers then fair enough. We'll disagree though. If you're saying they aren't shit by our standards then, of course, I agree. If, however, you are suggesting that the likes of Lescott are anything other than cannon fodder at that level then once again, we'll disagree. Of course McClaren is culpable. He has the charisma of 4 by 2. Croatia had better players in key positions than us and played very well. That some might not transfer that to the Premiership is very likely. In the same way as some of our lot are unable to transfer their Premiership talent to the international stage. The 'shit' comment is over the top. Are they good enough though on that international stage? Not likely in a fair few cases. Nb: Brazil had players who have performed exceptionally well on the International stage. We haven't, very few of them haven't got anywhere remotely close to the levels that a fair proportion of the Brazilian squad have on the International stage. I didnt see anyone with the International footballing talent of Cafu, Carlos or Ronaldihno last night. There are some good premiership footballers on view last night. Were they anything other than average international footballers? Probably. Good post, Pie. FWIW, I think England have a team of very good 'international-level' players. I honestly think, taken as individuals, we have at least as much talent as, say, the German side. Why is it that Germany have a fantastic record--and will probably get to at least the semis next summer--and we have a relatively mediocre one? Are the players really that much better? As individuals, was the German 2006 side really much cop? Or the 2004 Greece side? In our recent past, we have not been able to create an excellent side out of a pool of good players and that is why we'll consistently fail. Maybe it is the players fault: maybe the English player is not organised or clinical enough, but surely that can be instilled by the right manager?

Bizarre comments from Rafa.

Capello has said he wants the job.

I'd love to see them, but I'm wondering if PL clubs would feel the same way... I think not.

No one performed yesterday. It was unbelievable. -
That press conference was almost as bad the fucking match. What a waste of fucking time. Load of shit.
-
What's a shit good player?
-
Howay! He's talking shite. If England players are shit, then the Sunderland squad is worse than shit cos' none of them are close to good enough to play for England except their keeper.
-
Would Wenger make a good international coach?
-
Big Sam had question marks over his head at the time with bung allegations. McClaren on the other hand was already in the England setup - he already had good access to the FA headquarters, and as soon as Scolari ruled himself out, got on the train, took a taxi to soho square, entered the boardroom, got down on his knees, and sucked off several aging cocks to land the job. And people say he lacks passion.
-
He's wrong, basically. And a twat.
-
Tbh, we could probably do worse than get Hoddle back.
-
Maybe we should go Dutch? Get a manager in who's not afraid to let the players express themselves. People are saying our players are so much more inferior technically than continental players, but I think it's closer than that, but we play with the 'must not lose' mentality.
-
What would people think of 'Arry?
-
Is Lawrie Sanchez or Worthington really that much better than McLaren? Surely some of the blame has to placed at the feet of the players. They are better--much better, tbh--than the other home nation sides and should've qualified comfortably.

obviuosly a "u" but an "a" is apt That's right, I hear McLaren's book 'McLaren On Tactics' can now be picked up for as little as €.01! -

As I said above, how can he be expected to be in any form when he's not getting his game in blue? Fair enough if he was genuinely the best left back in England and behind a foreigner at Chelsea, maybe you have to try and get him in, but he's behind the genuine best LB in England who was on the fucking bench! It would be funny if it wasn't so bloody tragic. I don't know. I can't explain his performance tonight. As you say, maybe he's just not up to speed at the minute.
