MA finally gave up and was ready to sell, the LEAGUE dragged a deal on beyond the exclusivity period, and their apparent fit & proper owner in MA jointly fucked over this club's fans and the region. my ultimate guess is MA is trying to squeeze more out of PIF/PCP and may potentially be pointing at the HM "bid" and the significant amount of time and disruption it has caused him/NUFC due to their approval by the league taking an eternity.

PIF are not. The PL has a relationship and obligation to Ashley, not to whoever he's trying to sell to. Nah Chris what Minhosa is saying is that it doesn’t make sense for the club’s attorneys to be the middle person for questions directly related to the acquisition with respect to questions only PIF is able to answer. In theory if Barnes is forwarded or on these correspondence he could easily pass on information (breaking confidentiality) to someone not involved or competing to buy. In any case I’ve been on both sides of deals related to M&A and I’ve never in my life seen a process conducted like this - more so the league wanting clarification from PIF on something, so sends email to MA’s attorneys, and then those attorneys reach out to PIF and so on. That is not market practices imo.

Been said before the league would have given a steer to The buyer before this all went into formal review. Which is by no means a commitment of approval; so the folks at the PL and their attorneys surely would know how a sovereign wealth fund operates - esp one like PIF for KSA. You have the Reuben family and top law firm like Freshfields on buyer side...Yet, now 4 months on and £17m non refundable deposit in escrow, the league has reversed this stance? With over 300 page business plan, proforma, structure and corporate resolutions? Still can’t figure it out? 4 months of back and forth dialogue? Still can’t figure it out? Strange.

I have no clue if I’ve said it on here before but if the PL simply came out and said No, this buyer has been involved in piracy; this buyer is affiliated with a regime that the league does not want in its ownership circle for xyz human rights reasons and we are drawing the line at that. Fair enough, selfishly will be upset but taking a step back I can’t really argue with that. But when you think about all the outside influences at play, a 4 month review process, trying to squeeze out the best possible deal for them, and then they come out with some nonsense on “not knowing who really runs the club” and needing further clarity on the separation of PIF and Gov, I find that quite fishy and a little bit of a shit reason to be hung up over this far along in the process. Finally when the league has issued a million no comments but leaks the news yesterday to the press, again doesn’t sit right.

Took 16+ weeks to still not be satisfied how the structure of a sovereign wealth fund works. Just have a backbone and come out and leak that you’re not ok with PIF’s chairman.

I still think the league are a clown show overall. It’s not even about the actual decision - it’s the lack of transparency and duration of this process. It’s the lack of respect for the fans of Newcastle and the employees of the club.

Sounds like the PL is hung up on MBS and his role as Chairman of PIF as sovereign and are likely not satisfied with PIF's lawyers either playing down his exact role or saying he is Chairman as Crown Prince but has no say on this specific deal and the PL are just not Ok with it.

Agree - if their ultimate issue is MBS and PIF then fucking have the balls to reject it and prepare for the battle.

Interesting re: ownership "structure" and decision making - you'd think with the law firms repping the Buyers that they'd have sorted out an org chart and corp structure to have various seats at "board" level and decision making process maps etc. Seems fucking weird article tbh.
