Couldn't agree less there, he looks particularly good one on one, just waits and steps in to take the ball away. Looks like a top central defender in a team in disarray to me. Think I posted a similar response to this a while ago. Winning one on ones appears to be one of his real strengths. I cant recall seeing many defenders that win one on ones to the extent he does. He tends to mark the striker very tightly, which can cause problems if there are runners from midfield (Fellaini goal). But I agree, colo is strong on 1 v 1.

Did pavulchenko even touch the ball yesterday? I watched the game, and I can't remember him doing anything at all. I liked Modric, his link up play with Lennon was the only thing keeping Spuds going. Woodgate looked off the pace, Bale was his usually cunty self, hutton looked ok, dawson was dawson, jenas and Zokora were both invisible. Bent was ok, but his goal was offside. Bentley was the worst of the lot, what the fuck happened to him!

No one even said that, they said the standard is dropping and in my opinion it is - Del Piero being top goal scorer last year says it all, when he is half the player he was before his injury. Plus Sheva, rated incredibly highly comes to Chelsea and does zilch. Looks too slow, lightweight and clumsy. So its a reasonable judgement to make imo. I'd agree, the standard has dropped from the early/mid 90's but a lot of clubs don't have the spending or pulling power unlike England and Spain IMO.
