Salary cap/ transfer cap are good ideas in theory, but in practice they wouldn't be workable, money and power are the drivers, and the big teams want to keep it that way. A squad size limit (apart from homegrown players - you can play as many of your youngsters) is probably the most realistic option. I like the MLS system, just wouldn't be applicable in Europe.

I think I was one of about three who gave him a chance. Then you were as deluded as the other two. After constant talk of the likes of Kuyt and Klose all summer, people were darned right to be f***ed off when Antoine Sibierski came in to replace Alan Shearer. Disclaimer: I know, Sibierski wasn't a direct replacement for Shearer. Not really, I saw he had a bit of ability, and that he could do a job. Maybe its because I dont have high expectations or something. Expect the worst and get pleasantly surprised if it works.

We should be looking at players like Victor Moses.

Well we haven't splashed out 12 million for him have we, so it's a complete non debate. Personally, if we would have thrown away 12 million on a player of his credentials I would have been far more unhappy than I currently am about signing two 'meh' players when we really need to inject some quality in the side.. What are his credentials? How much have you seen him play? In his mid twenties, never caught the eye of a big European club, a complete fringe player for his country and no outstanding statistics in terms of goal scoring or creating. If we would have paid 12 million for a relatively unknow player with those credentials I wouldn't have been happy.. Would you? That's a "never" then. Young, up and comers. No big names, no big fees, just a bit of stability. I expect top 10, as long as we get that I'll be happy.

Villa are signing Guzan, from what I have seen the guy seemed a bit shite.

I don't think too many, if any are happy with our midfield. Personally I would like to see us bring in a quality replacement for Butt and I would like to see us bring in a midfielder who can split defences with one pass that can put us through on goal. this is my theory which will probably get shot down....but i think most players can play those sort of passes but very few players have the movement and timing to make the runs to make it happen . sometime the absolute slide rule pass is used but a lot less often than to make the player capable a necessity. fire away. In Owen and Martins we have two of the best forwards in the game movement wise, if I was an out of favour attaking midfielder with an eye for a pass then I would be salivating over that potential combination. Don't forget we also need someone who can win the ball and pass it when playing the better sides, hence the desperate need for a quality defensive midfielder. The ammount of times we couldn't keep the ball because Butt was a half step behind the better players in the leauge had me tearing my hair out I'm sorry but Martins off the ball movement is piss poor, usually moving after the pass is made. The guy lacks vision tbh. Agree about owen though.
