Aye there's very few that kept their level so high for so long, even Maradona had a relatively short period of dominance but it was great everyone still remembers it. It's expected, I just people became so accustomed to how consistently great he was that it felt like it was never going to dropped. Even in a "bad" year he still managed just 3 less league goals than Ronaldo. Not sure about all comps but yeah he's still great just not at the level we expect him to be. Although tbh Messi can still play at the highest, but he's either been suffering from an illness or been lazy at least before the World Cup. I for one thought he was done for big parts of last season, just couldn't be arsed with much, obviously the control he has was always good but he just didn't impact games the same way. Look at the World Cup, his quality showed that he's still one of the best but he could've and should've done so much more damage imo. He was back to his best Sunday and is for many games, but many he just doesn't seem to care while CRonaldo plays at 100% every game and tries to win them. Messi is a far better footballer but Ronaldo had a better season IMO.

Think the quality of defenders is so s*** this year that they gave it to someone who can score a decent free-kick I mean even Thiago Silva has been quite bad for the last 6 months or so and still I can't think of two CB's more deserving than him and Ramos. Seriously, the crop of CBs in the world is absolutely f***ing s*** right now. Kompany, Thiago had below their standards season. Vidic, Terry, Pique are dead. Hummels isn't all that great (as I've said before). Only Ramos is really good but even he has moments of absolute madness. Am I missing someone here? I mean seriously? Is there really no world class CBs left in the world? Miranda and Godin were fantastic but I think it's more down to their team rather than their individual quality. Literally every defender that you've mentioned there is better than David Luiz. I dont' disagree. Well Vidic isn't and I'd say Pique hasn't shown anything resembling a CB for over a year now as well. But yeah the others are, so is Cahill in my opinion as well, but they're not excellent and if I was FIFA I'd have made this a 3-4-3 or something. Like Mole said, it's more a popularity contest. Because for as weird as it is that he won it, Iniesta who has been quite average all season won it as well at least David had 4-5 excellent games at the World Cup and a decent start to his PSG career until the last weeks or so.
