We made them look good that day though, we'd have made anyone look good that day.

2-0 to the Toon I reckon.
More news on the Spurs front. Paul Kemsley is resigning as Vice Chaiman. Was a rumour that he was going to do a Dein and team up with Mike Ashley (when he sold NUFC), Philip Green (billionaire boss of BHS, Topshop etc) and Richard Caring (billionaire owner of Wentworth Golf Club amongst other interests with a views to buy out Levy. The likelihood of that happening seems to be just about nil.
Probably more accurate is that Kemsley's nose is out of joint right now, not getting enough recognition for what he's done with the redevelopment of WHL (nothing!), sorting out the new Academy (Planning application submitted) and excellent Annual Accounts (being released tomorrow).
I still think Levy will be selling up before the end of this season, but not to Kemsley.
And you really think we give a monkeys' toss ?
Spurs fans generally take an interest in how their rivals are faring, whether you do or not is your prerogative.
Turnover up 39% and profit after all player trading up to £29.3m ensures another transfer kitty of over £50m available for the next window should the right players become available. The fact that Spurs have also announced a dividend for the first time since 1998 also reflects that, at the present time, they are awash with money.
Did I mention Spuds fans?
Do you speak for all of them ?
I repeat, do you think we give a toss about the boring spurs crap you post on here.
Here is a heads up for you it is a Newcastle web site, most come here to post and read about NEWCASTLE.
I am not opposed to any visiting fan having their twopenneth, but you abuse the privilege.
If you think your awash with money,we're are drowning in cash now.Having said that it is not about cash it is about results, it is about points it is about the game.
Things that Spurs don't have so you talk money -silly child
Stick to I, after all it is your opinion.
I for one am invariably interested to read whatever Jol says - I always like to have another's perspective on things which helps me balance my own ideas, that could become irrational otherwise.

Sept 15th 1973, Wolves @ home, 2-0. Howard and Natrass the scorers.
Most memorable game, for all the wrong reasons.. 9th March 1974, Notts Forest 4-3 in the FA Cup @ home. The old Leazes in those days was rocking.
-
He could get the whole team and entourage on there for away trips to Europe next season.
-
It doesn't actually sound anywhere near as big-headed in the actual interview. Media sensationalism shocker.
Yeah, but it comes across crap in print.
-
You may well be right about that 4-3, but I bet people wouldn't be bitching about it the way they are now.
-
Sam's got them playing too defensive for most of the games, but certainly away from home. And there's no sense trying to defend a goal down. If we'd attacked Arsenal would we have won? I don't know. If we'd attacked Derby would we have won, almost certainly yes.
A question with a caveat, I'm no Keegan worshipper being far too old for that, but as a very obvious contrast of styles..
If Keegan had picked the team today and sent them out would we have lost 3-1?
-
“It is far from unusual for a player to come to us from South Africa or Brazil and be far better than an English player. This should not be.”
That's the question that really needs answering and addressing, though the money (credit/loans) in the game today does seem to be an accident waiting to happen.

I notice you tried to convince me there HTT that Quinton Fortune is an example of SA wanting attractive technically gifted footballers? (There were other examples you said which made me laugh equally as much!!)
Also, SA didn't sign "2 attacking fullbacks". He signed Beye, a centre back who has been converted for a couple of years into a full back, for whom getting forward is NOT a strength, but being defensively solid, quick and athletic is. And he bought Enrique, not an attacking fullback, but nicknamed "the Bull" for his hard tackling.
Also, about Cacapa and Rozenhal, SA did not say that they were good because they were good passing defenders, he only recently said that Cacapa's ability to pass is incidental to his qualities, and that he's a "destroyer" not a player.
SA is all about being workmanlike, efficient, and effective. He analyses what seems to work best on paper, i.e. statistics about how teams concede goals, usually through not being able to concentrate for a full 90 minutes when faced with having to clear their lines from aerial bombardments, and sets about making that happen on the pitch. Hence EVERY throw in we ever get we'll have to witness Geremi try and launch it into their box. There's no excuses for that, it evinces SA' intentions perfectly
Your last paragraph there echoes my concerns about him, he seems to be all about the statistics and percentage football. Any fast flowing technical stuff that gets us on the edge of our seats will not be because Sam coached it into them but merely because they have the space and inclination to do it. I fear Sam lacks imagination and as such he's rather 2 dimensional rather than 3, that said he should do better for us than many an incumbent I can think of, as long as the football doesn't bore us to death first he should get something out of it starting with some Euro-qualification.

Don't think goalkeepers quite qualify as impact players, if Given is a casualty it's surely because he won't accept second fiddle at any time?

Pleasure reading that HTT, you're invariably a wellspring of sound and level observation that increases my optimism for the future.
Is that why he backed Souness and Roeder too?
LOL, I never said his observations were always sound and level, unlike your own negativity of late.
-
I'm quite sure they are being seen and will be addressed, in time. Unless you think Allardyce is some kind or Roeder-clone.

My only concerns are if Roz and Cash are to be the main pair all the time we will be exposed in the air too often. I believe we need a bruiser in there in the shape of Taylor or Faye.
FB's looking gooood, Beye and Enrique.
Christ I can hardly believe this, last season we never had a defence and now we can worry about who we leave out.
-
Great result, and really nice to see the change of formation into a far more balanced and threatening one in the latter stages.
The deep defence was not pleasant to watch but I understand the reasoning behind it, nullifying them exploiting the space behind with pace. Only thing was it gave them way too many headers in range of goal!

I see Lawro has got us down for a win, and a clean sheet!
The bastard has worked out he's a jinx!!

I'm wondering if that's what actually went wrong in this game, Big Sam knew he couldn't put out the team he wanted and he knew he didn't want to lose. So using his stats he put out the 8 (ignoring front 2 and GK) players who came out first in the stats for most tackles won and various other stats that would, in theory, make us hard to beat.
What I'm really wondering is if Sam pays too much attention to these stats sometimes. If he lacks imagination, or fears to make a mistake, falling back on stats everytime as a solution will only produce more results like monday night when you least expect them.
If the 'stats' have become a crutch of support, one that provides him with the answers he'd sometimes rather not make, or is uncertain about, it will not bode well for the future.
Any one of us would have gone for goals at Derby knowing full well that once the ball was in the net every Derby player would have been thinking 'Here we go again.' Sam set out to nick a goal and frustrate them at the same time. It was a major error, and one the players compounded because they were stifled.
Told to 'Get into them' they'd have probably done him, and us, proud. ( As long as Smith wasn't on the right wing
)

Allardyce?
-
I blame the clinical psychologist.
Needs someone to teach clinical passing and finishing.
-
I'd have played Taylor LB, Beye RB, Zoggy LW, Milner RW
-
If Allardyce ever starts Smith on the right of midfield again I'll be absolutely gobsmacked.
Technically and tactically that was more Roeder/Souness football than I'd care to see. And I'm afraid we are going to see a lot more of it as BSA sets out to 'not lose' away from home. Didn't work though, and there's many more times it won't if he insists on this brand of 'tactics'.
It's all very well setting out to create a strong defensive unit, though clearly it's not quite there yet, but you still need a spark of creativity, an attacking outlet. Persisting with the same set up into the second half suggests to me he is too hesitant, or lacking the imagination, to change things. Something we villified Roeder for.
I can't help but think if Keegan had had that exact same squad to choose from we would have kept a clean sheet due to Derby being so damned busy defending - and picking the ball out of their own net a few times.
I'm still pleased he's manager, for the moment, but I can't handle football like that. Woeful.

I blame Allardyce, seriously.
