I think we'll know by the end of the window, won't need to even see the first few games IMO. We know what Pardew offers after all (which is to say he brings everyone around him down a level or three), so its down to whether or not we have players who can counteract his rankness, players he'll actually allow on the field as well.

Not sure how that website is coming to those numbers. We're in profit by over £30m since Ashley look over, so that's close enough. But £17m in the last 5 years is far too low, think its more like £38m in those 5 years (we actually made a loss on transfers in his first couple of years, about £8m). Not that it matters, still £30m+ profit on transfers overall either way.

Chiellini was bitten and has come out in his defense. It's a ridiculous punishment, ban him 4,6 months 12 months from football, but banning him from training and going to watch games is ridiculous and has nothing to do with a fair punishment and all to do with politics. It's ridiculous. Most of the world of football is defending him, everyone from Johan Alvbåge in Sweden to Falcao in Brazil to Alexis Sanchez to Chiellini in Italy. World Cup players are saying it's excessive. Why were Tasotti and Leonardo allowed in 94 to still be a part of the squad? Why weren't their credentials taken away from them and sent home? I don't care if it's three bites, ban him in official football games not on what he does in his sparetime, FIFA are really putting themselves into a dangerous zone by doing this and are going to have to go hard on every off the ball incident now. He can still keep fit/train on his own time. As for being banned from going to watch games, fans get banned from stadiums all the time, most of them for less than attempted canabolism.

Just saw Ray Wilkins say he should be banned for a year but only from internationals.. So he'd be banned for a few friendlies and a few qualifiers maybe? He needs to be banned for a season from all competitions, maybe it'll sink in then.

I'm sure other clubs encounter the issue of thinking a player is worth less than the selling club is asking like, nowhere near as consistently as us though. In this case though I think they might be right, £7.5m seems like a good fee for this lad with one year left on his contract.
