from nufc.com Having published guidance before the game to the effect that there would be no hold back after the final whistle on Saturday, Cleveland Police then opted to block the road outside the away end "for safety reasons". The intention was to escort fans travelling by car or train away from the ground - which itself was flawed, given that people park all over the town centre. However an apparent lack of organisation quickly saw some of the police lined up stand aside and usher fans through. The section of the police cordon nearer to the railway line failed to follow suit and actually waved in reinforcements. This resulted in some fans being crushed as they were herded by officers with batons drawn - a complete over-reaction to a crowd whose only hostility came as a result of the treatment they were subjected to. Just just yards away meanwhile, there was the ridiculous situation of other away fans walking along - parallel to the restrained away fans - without police interference. And far from segregating supporters, this ragged approach actually resulted in a random mix of home and away fans, police vans and horses leading away from the stadium. That's what the usual post-match scene has been like here and once again there were no outbreaks of trouble, save for the inevitable small-scale flare-ups that routinely happen outside any ground. From our own observations, the muddled and haphazard way this was policed succeeded only in raising tensions among fans. The reasons for this change of heart also remain unclear, given that this type of holdback/escort hasn't been deemed necessary at this game for years. So, attempting to police a problem that didn't exist resulted in the creation of a problem. Council tax spent wisely then. PS: other fans who travelled by train have reported poor organisation at Middlesbrough station post-match, with the police forcing fans on to the wrong trains - was all this not meant to be a thing of the past?

The escort back to the station was fuckin annoying, missed the train we wanted. Pretty shite overall tbh, they probably deserved to win. Good day out overall, absolute shithole mind.

All I remember is all the smog coming into the ground in the 2nd half. Nice weather on Teesside btw

How many points ya got out of interest? Know a few people with about a hundred who aren't happy at all 97 points mate. Haven't been knocked back for an away ticket since our first ever visit to the stadium of light. Sat in the home end then which was pretty difficult with us going 2-0 up and then them coming back to draw 2-2. How many you reckon will be needed for QPR? My dad defintely has enough and I've got about 40

Sheff Utd bastards.

You should, it will look good. You will however be then dragged out of the stadium and banned from the riverside, possibly banned from football for a while. Its not a red though is it? That would just be silly. Its one of those big fierey ones that they have abroad, think I'll give it a miss but would be awesome after we score

What's the situation on flares? My mates offered me one, doubt I'l take it mind

Looks like we've all gone for something very similar for tonight. Wonder which team will ruin everyones day.

From nufc.com From the Ipswich Town website, Monday: "Town's match at Newcastle looks set to remain on Saturday, April 24. Sky TV have allocated one game from that weekend schedule to be played on Monday, April 26 but that will not be Blues' trip to St James' Park. "We have received a number of enquiries from fans about the possibility of the game at Newcastle being switched to the Monday but we understand from Sky that we are definitely playing on the Saturday," says a Club spokesperson. All well and good, but that still leaves the possibility of Sky taking coverage of the game on the Saturday and amending the kick-off time from 3pm - not to mention the BBC picking this fixture, which would throw up the possibility of a Sunday rescheduling after all....
