They were not good overall against Nigeria and the winning goal came when they'd switched to a 3 up front with Forlan left and Cavani right. When they had Forlan in behind the other two they were particularly awful.

Still not the full article but the bit I hadn't seen mentioned there was about us "urgently" needing a centre-half and a centre-foward, and having three targets identified for the latter position on whom Pardew has the final say.

Just downloaded the Times app on my iPhone out of interest to see if I could buy a copy of the Sunday Times to transcribe the article for everyone, but instead it's given me a 30 day free trial subscription to The Times and The Sunday Times. Bonus. If we were smart about it we could be covered year-round so when articles pop-up like this, people have access to them. Anyway, I'll get typing...

My problem is I can see Pardew/Kinnear being quite similar and almost 'out voting' Carr on transfers. Just get the feeling this window will be more Darren Bent than unearthed European young star. We'll become exactly what I don't want us to be. Full of old, overrated Brits that can 'put in a tackle'. It could happen like that, definitely, but if it's just one or two then I could live with it. Still not sure how exactly Bent and Cisse would be supposed to work. Pardew is still the main problem, for me, it's him we've got to thank for this series of events more than anyone.

Was Kinnear's appointment not just more to do with getting at Llambias and Pardew than sticking two fingers up at the fans? If so, does that not give anyone a modicum of hope that Ashley isn't content to just survive in the league year-on-year? I appreciate that short-term it looks awful, given Kinnear's character and history, but personally I've taken some solace in the fact that at least Ashley was apparently arsed that we did shite. At times I have wondered whether it did actually matter to him or not how well we performed.

I can see where you're coming from, just think the best approach at the moment may well be to let the dust settle a little bit and see where things fall. Individually there's not much else we can do that has any impact at all aside from withdrawing our funds from the club by cancelling whatever subscriptions we have (season tickets, memberships, NUFC TV, etc.) Kinnear's first test is obviously the transfer window and the type of dealing we get through. You never know, hopefully they'll be keen to impress and show that the appointment was worthwhile! Not holding my breath, of course. I was initially angry and embarrassed, but Graham Carr staying has placated me somewhat and I'm just settling in to see what the next month or so brings.

What else can we do?

An earlier Guardian article, before Kinnear demoted Fuccillo and installed himself as manager: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2001/feb/08/newsstory.sport4 Aye, I've finally felt brave enough to revisit his Wikipedia page. Am I Giggsing like a bastard?

From a Guardian article in 2001: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2001/mar/17/newsstory.sport1 Honestly can't see it being any different this time around, he's just not the type to sit in the background at all.

I couldn't resist backing it because of your self-deprication. I thought we were in it for e/w at least, then he just disappeared! Who we going for to end the day?
