I'm hanging my hat on Hatem.

As I think I saw Sifu say, I still have the feeling he's going to end up here. Also agree with those who've said that it appears that Marseille are his first choice and they're playing silly buggers in the background, hence the delay. Similar to what we've been doing with Darren Bent by all accounts.

I came into this one hoping for at least a striker and a winger, both of whom would be comfortably first-team material, regardless of what went out. I'd have liked them in before pre-season training got underway so they had a chance to settle into the area, get to know their teammates and undergo the same rigorous training as everyone else in the squad seems to have done. Naturally this would have meant they'd have been available for selection come the City game all being well, and that old Pards would've had some semblance of an idea of what his best XI looked like and how they'd play by then too. Obviously there's still a chance we'll end up with what I'd hoped for in the end, because Remy definitely fulfills the first part of my criteria, but we have again failed to address the second part of it. Getting them in early isn't necessarily the be-all, end-all as we've signed plenty in August who've gone on to do alright, but for once it would be nice to have everything done and dusted by the time the season got underway. I still hold out hope that we'll see the back of Amalfitano, Gosling, Obertan and Shola before the window is out and that we'll get another striker and winger in as well like, but then I'm always daftly optimistic.

The Official Alan Pardew Excuses Thread

Interesting that The Mirror (Le10Sport originally) appeared to be bang on the money with this, when nobody else was carrying it. Stopped clock, etc.
-
Blame bimpy for slow updates btw, it's his thread. He's been on here all day as well, the lazy bassa.

Tip if they're able to hold a conversation. Nowt if they sit being mopey cunts throughout. Definitely nowt if it's Christmas Tree driving.

Just a quick jaunt on the banter bus for me. Very happy to have come in to see this news after work. Delighted that Joe Kinnear isn't completely off the reservation and still has some grounding in reality after his comments yesterday, here's hoping he can "win the battle" for Gomis as well. These two and a left-winger, plus hopefully the end of Ameobi and Obertan, we'll have done alright.

http://tyneandwear.sky.com/newcastleunited/video/76267/not-letting-go-joe-kinnear-on-gomis-remy-and-bent Posted elsewhere, but suppose this is the best place to bring it all together: Pardew - Has regular meetings to discuss targets and keep him informed. Everyone is agreed on which players to target. Gomis - Goalposts keep moving, he keeps having to go back and offer a little bit more to Lyon (who keep leaking stuff to media). Remy - Very close to agreeing a loan deal with an initial fee, very happy with how the deal is going and should be announced Monday/Tuesday. Bent - Deal agreed with player, but no agreement with Aston Villa as of yet. One other team interested (Fulham), but there's still a strong possibility. 2 or 3? - Makes it sound like we'll get 2 strikers in, not all 3 and doesn't mention Shola Ameobi at all as an option up front, just Cisse and Campbell. Other signings - Once the striker area is sorted he's moving onto another area of the pitch where he has a hitlist of players to work through. "This is a serious battle, so we need to win." Go on Joe, you mad bastard.

This is DAMNING evidence.

Eh? you lost me. I never said they were wrong, but we would still lack it if we only bring in one striker. "We still lack the goals everyone bangs on about" just seemed a funny sentence, unless you meant for it to be "we'd still lack..." Thought you were exasperated at people banging on about us needing to score goals Gomis and Ince would do, hypothetically, but we'd have to have better luck with injuries than we did last year to avoid seeing too much Ameobi action.

People banging on about goals in football eh? Fucking mentalists.

Some handsome fucker has even done a proper job on the summer transfer tracker too. August 2nd 2013 was a great day.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/wigans-james-mccarthy-next-in-line-with-bafetimbi-gomis-on-verge-of-newcastle-switch-8744474.html Martin Hardy, who tends to be one of the better ones at sounding like he knows what he's talking about despite consistently being wide of the mark. Reckons McCarthy is lined-up to replace PSG-bound Cabaye.

Think he's about as good as we're going to do for a player of his style, given the constraints we appear to work under when it comes to transfers. Can't grumble.
-
Is Christie Elliott playing? Cracking lad Think he's on the bench.
-
Cheers. Not enough of that about at the minute and it's always good to have some balance.
-
Mackay-Steven for Ciftci sounds good like.
-
Aye, thought the same. Settling down a bit now though and only Dundee really have anything on the bench to change things. Interesting to see Gauld for the first time, looks the real deal from the few times he's been involved.

Nobody else get stinking pits in football tops? I'm a sweaty cunt mind. That's the only reason I don't sit about in them really, like to have the current one for wearing to the match/playing footy in.
