    Alexander Isak

Since the Aston Villa game this year, he's just been plastered with man marking when we're in possession, having to drop to our defensive third to get the ball. Definitely missing someone to link up with higher up the pitch. Think maybe we should try playing Isak just off Wilson.
  2. Much better second half, hard fought point. Lots of great effort on show. When I was excited about Newcastle United playing in the Champions League, I have to admit I was hoping to see Newcastle show our quality on the ball - but this is a learning experience for a lot of those players in Italy against the CL finalists. Having said all that... ...I think it's fair to say that this team looks a shadow of itself from last year, so far. You can see moments of frustration amongst the players reaching the surface, often with each other. Isak giving Gordon pelters for sending him down blind alleys. Longstaff and Burn getting into it. The confidence on the ball, moving the ball at speed when in possession, it all feels very lacklustre. Isak is being used as an Almiron-esque workhorse. We didn't buy him for his stamina, it's a bit sad to see him so gassed whenever he gets the ball. Trippier and Bruno were the best players I thought.
  3. Bit strong! Pleased NUFC are here but don't think we be too deferential to the occasion. I back this team to compete in the group if it plays up to the standards they've shown they're capable of tbh.
  4. Doing really poorly at keeping shape. Huge gaps forming on transition. Newcastle are in a real rut in terms of creativity, the focus should therefore be on defensive discipline away from home IMO.
  5. We haven't seen Bruno, Tonali and Longstaff as a midfield three at the same time, have we?
  6. Murphy has been brought in to out-troll the Italian dark arts, clearly.
  7. Ready to take his place in future folklore alongside Andy Griffin

  9. M Bison would be proud of that one.
  10. 3 points. Controlled the game well after going 1 up. Clean sheet! Happy days.
  11. Yeah fair. Everything just feels a bit stiff. Maybe too much emphasis on keeping possession. Try some riskier passes in the final third.
  12. Workmanlike first half. Lots of effort, not much creativity or dynamism outside of Gordon.

    England

Southgate's inoffensive personality and the talent poor predecessor England sides means he has lots of capital left in the bank. I can't watch England without seeing a side that is far, far, far less than the sum of their parts.
  14. Woof. Howe really needs to take this on the chin. He's had a shocking start to the season. I was hoping his post-match comments were just to keep dirty laundry in-house, but his actions betrayed that wishful thinking That is another tragic loss, but in a different way to Liverpool. Newcastle made very simple things look incredibly difficult and Brighton were the polar opposite. Those are three hard fixtures, but Newcastle have put in three very meek performances. I think it's also unlikely they'll ace the "should win" fixtures as effectively as they did last year. And if the aspirations are top 5, they're now very reliant on some substantial skidmark runs of form from other top sides. Nick Pope looks frightened of his own shadow. Joelinton looks an utter liability/passenger rather than the midfield destroyer we enjoyed (is he injured?). The substitutes are puzzling, the game plans are naive, Isak hasn't looked sharp. Joelinton and Isak should start on the bench next game. Tonali has been a bright spot, but keeps getting hooked early.
  15. Nick Pope's nerves looks absolutely shot. Can't command his the box aerially, looks like a frightened rabbit whenever he leaves his 6-yard box but seems to do so frequently and now his best quality - his shot-stopping - looks sloppy. What happened to him/
  16. Lead in his boots lately. He's just running around in a small circle not pressing, not showing for the ball, not doing owt.
  17. Big Joelinton is a proper passenger so far. Not really doing anything. Still feeling quite confident though. More quality all over the pitch. Will be a bit of a shitshow to not win this given the disparity.
  18. Well, the bad news is, arguably our best player, Isak has missed two incredible chances. The good news is Brighton look bobbins on the ball - especially at the back - with all the conviction of a Newcastle side with a numerical advantage and a one-goal lead against a Liverpool side waiting to be beaten.
