I think midfield is a much higher priority. The problem with the strikers is that our first choice (Owen, Viduka) are injury prone, whereas the problem with the midfielders is that our first choice (Butt, Geremi) just aren't very good. You can take a gamble on fitness, but not on bad players. But ideally, both should be addressed. The one thing we definitely shouldn't be wasting time on is another defender (after Colo).

I hope Man U put in a shift like this next weekend. Early on might actually be the best time to play them.

I'd look at Benayoun (Liverpool might let him go), Kranjcar (Pompey need the money, and out left isn't his best position) & Larsson (most likely).

Derdiyok is class. He is young, great scoring record, lots of potential, and said he wanted to play alongside Owen after he scored against England at Wembley.

All sounds a bit fancy for Martin O'Neill.

The obsession about an "attacking midfielder" probably stems from the fact that we rely on Nicky Butt & Geremi, neither of whom are capable of attacking play, so we feel we need an attacking midfielder, because our present regulars are too old and slow to do the job themselves. "Defensive midfielder" can be a kind way of labeling players that are too old and too slow to be of any use. In this league, it seems like all the best midfielders (with very rare exceptions) are capable of doing a bit of everything.

Two points: 1. Are we really taking Nicky Butt through another Premiership campaign? Really? 2. What I like about Spiderman so far is that he doesn't seem to run out of ideas in the final third. Great attacking instincts.
