He was, but apparently Carroll is worth more than the world's best striker, despite being unproven at Premier League level, because he's "local". That's the point though, he pretty much is proven at the premier league level, whereas all the big names from abroad aren't necessarily going to adapt or like playing in it. Yes Carroll's only had half a season but any premier manager knows he is pretty much unstoppable whether he scores 10 goals in a season or 20. He causes havoc and that is priceless. Carroll has scored 11 goals across half a season, that's makes him a striker on hot form, but far from a proven premiership striker. I'm with you, worth remembering that his exceelent form was just 2 seasons ago and at the age of 24, he has time on his side. The only way things could screw up is if he himself does not have the motivation to capture his old form, but I think that is where our squad and players like Barton, Nolan, Enrique, Coloccini come in. We have a highly motivated squad and players who genuinely want to do well for the fans, there is a higher chace of these attributes rubbing off Ireland than the other way around.

I'm afraid my instinct is that Ireland will be the last and I'm not happy with that. We badly need a striker especially as nobody knows how long Carroll will be out for. We can't continue on with the awesome firepower combination of Ameobi and Best.

Fair enough if people want to question whether Suarez can adapt to the premiership (though his physical size tells me that he will), but it's not like Carroll has proven that he is good in the Premiership season after season. sorry to disappoint, wasn't gonna say that...but think we can get a more proven striker (non English) for 20-25M, most probably from abroad. He would not be more proven in the Premiership (and Carroll's half of a great season does not prove much either), but more proven as a striker in terms of overall skills and consistency.
