Does the TV money not cover our existing wage bill? For any of the doubters, cast an eye of the previous available NUFC finances in black and white, you will see there is rather more money to spend than we are being lead to believe. That said, what is happening is the loan(s) put into the club from Ashley are simply being repaid, but rather than being transparent, we are being fed lies and being taken for fools by being told the money will be spent on players. Had the club been honest, I think we would all have been a lot happier about what is happening now with our eyes open. I've posted this previously with links to proofs of finances on another thread a month ago. Ashley is simply reducing the debt of the club to make it a more attractive asset to sell. Although I haven't looked at them, don't the latest accounts show that the loan to Ashley is still the same or higher, not less? Not sure how he is paying himself back if that's the case. Next years accounts might show the loan is significantly lower is my guess.

I think Jonas might offer us a bit more in that area. He'll actually stay wide for a start which will open the pitch up.

Emnes is one of those who has all the right attributes, pace and movement that we need, no argument about that. Just a massive risk to expect him to step up in the premier though. Unless Ashley is willing to take a punt on his resale value long term. oops.
-
Emnes was starting out his career when we went down with boro a couple of seasons ago. Totally unproven and he's only just started scoring in the Championship. Not much further forward than Nile Ranger in all honesty.

He's been on a free transfer for the past few weeks and noone else seems to want him, hence there's no reason to believe the situation will be any different in 12 months time when he gets his last paycheck from us and gets booted out by Ashley's australian boot. http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSpFmftMnSHTwq6mFYx4qCnn9FVsGBJ6DKzuyltilXwRlnbIb8c Might be better to take the money/contract and run. Away from Mike's big boot. Or, he stays this season, quits twitter (and gives up the blog idea), keeps his gob shut and does his talking on the pitch, and then after another good season he might be either offered a new deal here or other clubs would likely be lining up for him as a free agent. No reason to cut and run to the first club that flashes him a big contract/wage. He hasn't done his talking on the pitch this season though. Other than scuffling about slowly in midfield in the same area as Cabaye and Tiote he's been anonymous.

i think jonas will get moved over and marveaux will start lm once fully fit That would be the sensible option, at least for the short term.

If everyone loved loveable Joey like the Newcastle fanboys do then he wouldn't be short of offers, but the only high profile clubs who could afford Barton's wages can buy better players. Hence the awful reality sinks in that only the likes of West Ham and QPR will be interested. Tough to take for some but I predicted it months ago.

Guthrie filled his boots well enough in the Championship when Barton was missing for half a season. We do have Tiote and Cabaye in the middle as well so it's not like we are light in midfield. Just shut up, man. Barton hasn't done great in central midifeld, which is why he's been moved wide right for a while now. He's not been great wide right either since Carroll left. Don't think about it too hard. I don't have to, mate. I'm fortunate enough to own a pair of eyes. Aye well them specs need a stronger prescription.

In the Championship... Yawn. ok. Barton did shit in central midfield even in the premier when he was playing there.

Barnetta would have been the right replacement but that's not going to happen unless we don't get a striker/LB by the looks of it.
-
You're blind if you miss what Barton gives us. Hes already been one of our most influential players this season in both games & only in a beneficial way to us. Gosling has done nothing whatsoever yet to be considered in the same league, beyond blind hope that he'll perform. He is competitive but that that's cancelled out by his lack of movement off the ball IMO. He sits in the middle where it's already over crowded and doesn't get out wide enough which would open up the pitch for some decent passing moves.

Douglas has probably just heard that Lyon are looking at David Santon and has put two and two together.
-
I would disagree but I expect I'll be in the minority. I am with you Tron, not too bothered if he leaves actually. Personally, i don't think he offers anything in the centre of midfield. Probably why we don't play him in the middle He still plays in the middle regardless of where he's meant to play.
-
For QPR it would be like their marquee signing so they might stretch their budget to fit his pay demands. Since there was never any real interest from CL clubs this might be Joey's most face saving way out.

I guess that would alway be the case as he's a free agent? We'd be mental to let him go though. If it means that we can then afford to pay a bit more for the left back and striker I don't mind.

Does anyone else read "Pieters" in a Sunderland accent? What sort of fucked up way is that to spell Peters anyway?

Does the TV money not cover our existing wage bill? I thought gate money and sponsorship would be used to cover that. Combination of the two? What are our gate incomes these days anyways? No idea, I just know we have a big stadium which is more full than most others and we've reduced our wage bill quite drastically over recent years. Weren't we in a situation where wages >80% turnover a year or two ago? In fact, didn't this go higher (wages exceed turnover) in our Championship year? May not be exact with the figures. Things can't have been that bad, we were slapping in £10m offers for N'Zogbia the day after selling Andy Carroll.

I read the article and it's nothing I didn't know already. We should still have cash to spend with the tv money which hasn't been accounted for in that piece. There's money there, we are just fucking about getting it spent in a piss poor attempt to save a million here, a million there.

I think we are a disgrace. In that it's a disgrace we haven't got a striker in yet

No holding midfielder?
