Ashley will never have a better platform to show that he wants to run the club in the right way. The cash injection from the Carroll sale means he won't even have to take daft risks pursuing success like we have previously. We are at a crossroads at then end of this campaign. I would love to say with confidence that I think he'll do the right thing but in all honesty it wouldn't surprise me if he put the club up for sale again in order not to have to take that responsibility.

Yeah. Enrique is a good player and an improved player, but I'm not sure he's good enough for a Champions League club and the Spanish national side. His defending is still a bit hit and miss and he's still prone to giving the ball away in his own half. Jose Enrique's defending is hit and miss? Are we talking about the same bloke? apart from that, if he gives the ball away in his own half now and then it's because he's one of the few players in our squad who are good enough to try and play their way out of defence. No doubt we'll finally recognise this when he's replaced with some left-foot version of Ryan Taylor who shits himself if there's a player within 5 yards.

I wonder if given the choice Man U would go for Baines ahead of Enrique? Baines is fantastic going forward but I would hold that Enrique is the better defender and not far behind in getting forward either.

Like any player of ability Enrique will have ambitions, both personal and with his club. He's been one of the best settled foreign players we've ever had here and if we finished the season fighting for Europe, showed our intent in the transfer market and gave him a contract close to what he could get elsewhere I think he'd want to stay. The only thing we can't do is get his national team to give him a cap, but we could give him hope that next season we'll be a team the rest of Europe can't ignore.

I'm pretty sure that the failure to break into the national squad will have a big bearing on Enrique's future. Players in England tend to get ignored unless they are playing CL football so if Ma U or Liverpool are interested that will be a big lure. Can't see Villa being in the race though, just because they are interested doesn't mean he wants to go there. How we end the season and how we spend the Carroll money will be the deciding factor in keeping him here.

Big test for our club this one. This is not the same situation as Carroll as Jose only has two years of his contract remaining so IMO we won't get daft money bids for him. At most £8-10m and that's being optimistic. In which case we should play hardball and make him see out his contract until we get an offer which suits us. That sort of money will only buy an inferior player.

Bolton have had a good season and under Coyle they aren't an easy team to play against. But this team keeps surprising me so I'm going to believe we can win this by the odd goal.

Pardew mentioned how the plan to counter Birmingham's diagonal crosses worked. While I previously thought he was just a gobshite I'm starting to think he might have more tactical nous than some of us were prepared to concede. The players seem to enjoy his methods and that tells us something. Just need to see how he fares in the transfer market now, otherwise I'm on board.

Woodgate is the best centre back I've ever seen in a Newcastle shirt...not a weakness to his game. But given the choice of the two I'd pick Coloccini every time because you can't put a price on his superb fitness record.
