Hilarious innit? I know he was only a patch on Lampard's performances though.

can you quantify that Dave? Do you mean statistically? I can't be bothered to look it up to be perfectly honest, I just feel far more let down by Gerrard over the years considering what he has done for Liverpool in the same timeframe. Gerrard was worldclass against Germany 5-1. Apart from that neither Gerrard & Lampard have really done anything of note for me. Short memory. Lampard was easily the driving force behind WC 06 qualification. Not to mention his excellent performances in Euro 04. They've both under-performed internationally for a long time.Gerrard has played well sporadically since 2002,and Lampard ,the same since 2005.The player we've really missed has been Hargreaves, who outshone both in 2006. Just about to say that. Coached in Germany he at least understands a little more than knock it up here son! The only one that emerged from the last WC with any dignity. Could do with his grit, dig and spirit right now. not to mention his ability to always be available and retain possession. Unsung hero.

England are the international version of us in so many ways. So true, and so sad.
-
That would be incredible, even if it was terribly childish.

So true, but majority of fans just can't see this. They'll happily have another change, another waste of time no doubt. If Capello gets the boot, nobody worth a jot will come near it.
-
Really hope Terry gets the flak and not Capello. You don't hang world class managers out to dry, and as much as his man-management skills may well be lacking, you don't become a shit manager overnight. TERRY OUT!
-
Rio was good, very vocal with the media and pro-Capello from his brief time as captain. Normally can't stand the git.
-
Most interesting football thread in about four years, by the way. Good shit from all, even if you're wrong.
-
No conclusion on this then..?
-
Yet they coasted it through qualifiers, under the same manager, and the same formation.

Carroll.

That's definitely the plan like, not player mind you, but I think he'll get it after Capello if he stays on til the Euros. Our attempt at a van Basten or Klinsmann appointment.  Beckham England manager???!!! My goodness. Yeah, wait. What the fuck is wrong with me. Beckham 2012! He...looks good in a suit! Not trying to apply logic here! Just reckon that's what'll end out happening. That would be crazy if it happened. Would be. Not really going to bang on about it, just remember reading about the possibilities of it a few months back. In the article it also mentioned Linekar, which wouldn't bother me, and Shearer. Wouldn't mind giving Shearer a stab at it like. That said, I'm still a firm fan of Capello. Would be gutted if all his blatant good work got undone in the matter of two frigging weeks. Aye. I reckon he will be massively hurt if we didn't qualify, seeing as it would be such a massive blot on an excellent career. The last two years under him I've actually felt a bit of pride towards the actual England team. There was no more of the WAG shit, no more celebrity culture and he blew the bubble, finally, on Michael "I earn on my old reputation" Owen. Never mind the results. You know, winning games we should be winning and that. Just the final hurdle has been a disaster, but at least we've not lost! Yet..

So glad I'm not alone. Not even put any football on today, just totally fed up with it. This is nuts. It's the World Cup! But we're shit!

I've little faith in Hodgson dropping big names. If only cause he's not big enough himself.

Intersting post. But should Eng players really need motivating at a WC? They need a reality check more than motivation. Someone that will tell them they actually have to work if they want to win.
-
Wouldn't mind him staying on till the Euro's. We had zero problem qualifying, so it isn't like that would be an issue or worry, and another two years under Capello would allow the team to properly gel to his style. Also would be able to send messages to the bigger players by dropping them over the course of two years as opposed to having to gamble at the final hurdle of a major championships.

Precisely, theirs is a case of disharmony, not an example of the 'technique' argument being waffle.

Doesn't seem to be doing France much good. Their squad is coming to the end of a very good 10 year cycle. It will be replenished as new talent steps up. It's the new players who are underperforming, tbh. Well they reached the final in 2006 and won it in 1998. They are now going through a period of replacing Viera, Henry, Zidane, Thuram, Barthez etc...It will take a few years till the new team takes shape. Have to agree with this, France will rise up again. If anything, they're a team lacking in confidence and the youngster need time to develop together like the previous generation. There's also a few of the older lot hanging on, Anelka, Henry etc, which won't allow the others to feel free and express themselves. England really does need a shake-up from the grassroots. People have identified the lack of technique driven training as a problem for years, but due to the PL's overwhelming monetary success there's no drive to change anything from within the FA. All about the mullah.

Can't stand Beckham in general, but that's all spot on.
