The Rangers fans up here genuinely believe he should get a knighthood. It's hilarious stuff to listen to.

Smart enough to put 10 men behind a ball.

He's certainly no tactical genius guys, but he's learned how to grind out a result with the teams he's built up. His pathetic record in Europe during his first stint at Rangers more or less proves this. The regular drubbings of 4-0, 4-1s were comical efforts. He picked up a few things in his time down here, most probably as Fergie's assistant, but he was a pretty dismal failure at Everton. Where was this genius then? A tactical genius can lay out a plan to win, and he can't do that, never has. His plan is to rely on opportunism, and basically, that's no plan and no genius tactic. Mediocre genius, or tactical mediocrity, take your pick, but please, get a hold of yourselves.

No-one is saying the premier league is by far the best league in the world like. Feeble attempt at a strawman. At the end of the day it's a cup competition, and any team that makes it to the final stages could win it depending on a lot of factors on the day. Liverpool won it FFS, and it's been decades since the last time they had a sniff of winning our league. A better indicator would be consistency in getting to the latter stages and strength in depth. Finalists: 6 English (4 teams) 6 Spanish (3 teams) 5 Italian (3 teams) 3 German (2 teams) 1 French 1 Portuguese Semi-finalists: 15 English (5 teams) 14 Spanish 7 Italian 4 German 2 French 1 Portuguese 1 Dutch Quarter-finalists: 26 English 21 Spanish 15 Italian 9 German 6 French 4 Portuguese 3 Dutch 2 Turkish 1 Russian 1 Greek Spain and England stand out by miles, not much in it. Not much sight however of teams from the mighty Dutch league Mr Petrovic No one doubts the cream of the crop in England are above the rest in Europe, but when the entire Premier League comes into play, it is not the best league around for a multitude of reasons that have been touched upon in this thread. England and Spain's elite are the best, we get that. It's been that way for about the last 30 years. No-one has argued against that with the exception of Neesy, perhaps. The problem with the PL is that all that goodness is more or less centralised around the top 4, with the odd team or two making cameo attempts to break through before going into a financial meltdown. Same with Spain.

We're just slowly turning into a larger version of the Scottish league, except with money. Any non-top 4 side that brings through some good players end out off to one of them. Much the same way Rangers and Celtic just buy anyone remotely decent from the rest of their league and sit them on the bench behind their foreign stars. There's no interest in the greater good in Britain. It's all commercial crap.

How often do you watch the bottom half teams of Bundesliga play each other? Just what I was thinking I don't watch football in general as much as I used to, but for easily the past 5 years the Bundesliga has been a much more competitive and unpredictable league. I'm sure a recently promoted side were dominating the league until the last few weeks. Also, most of their clubs have pretty good youth set-ups, which means all teams tend to flourish in their own ways. That said, I never claimed their bottom half teams were better than ours, just that the league is actually more enjoyable, productive, competitive and last year finally started to make a better profit than us. Really don't know how anyone can argue that the PL is better. It's just promoted and pushed to the hilt.

He's right about the Bundesliga being better mind.

That was my last NUFC And we never met up.

Sadly not been to any really 'great' Newcastle games. My best was probably the 3-1 win over West Ham at home, Sep 2007, Viduka double which got me going. Best game I've been to, was as a neutral to Rangers vs Aberdeen last game of the season in 1996. Gazza scored a hattrick to win the league, really never experienced an atmosphere as intense as that day. Nothing has come close, but then it was exceptional circumstances.

Haha, how'd that happen.

Why shouldn't Shearer be expected to do a bit of research? When the Toon played Ferencváros in 1996, a friend of mine -- a then Budapest-based Reuters football correspondent -- was introduced to John Motson before the match, and was impressed that Motson was immediately full of questions -- how should he pronounce this or that player's name, questions about the club's history and its fans. He pulled out a notebook and was scribbling down the answers. That's professionalism. It's not good enough to just turn up and talk any old shite. Shearer's supposed to be some kind of expert. As he himself claimed in those embarrassing adverts towards the start of the season. "And join me, for expert analysis on the weekend's games," sigh.

Shearer has been pretty crap, has to be said. It's a rather odd one, given that he's basically opted for it over staying in football. Something that would have allowed him to learn the game beyond his playing experience, tactics etc even more, so when he ever did a cameo appearance he might just have the slightest clue what he's on about. There was a good article in the Independent about him, and pundits in general these days, naturally it was mocking him mind. He's gone for TV fame, sadly, and it's really not working out.

If there's one thing that's reliable in life, it's an internet poll.

Yeah, really need to sort that big chap. Will thrash something out tomorrow when I'm less confused.

I was referring to the fixture list, for the record. A cost for signing up would be hilarious though, the uproar on TT would be monumental. That said, it would go against everything this place was(is) and particularly my own principles, Kemobaba. Sorry to get serious on your ass. There's honestly better things people could be putting this money towards as it's totally ill-thought out, and I'm also not meaning the server.
