  1. Viduka would be an excellent signing for 2-3m, especially for Europe where the slower pace of the game and more time on the ball suits him ideally. He's lazy but gifted and at that price would be decent enough given he'll score 10 or more goals and set up a few not to mention provide us with an additional outlet.

    best post in this thread

  2. According to tyne-talk, Steve Gibson has stated Viduka will not be leaving Boro at Woodgate's unveiling press conference, with 'quotes to follow'..

Good! The last thing we need is another stop-gap, expecially one that can't even get into the Boro side (a Boro side that lost 4-0 at home to Portsmouth three nights ago).

Use the money to fund for new defenders.

for the record, he played against pompey (not that it matters like!)

Judging a manager on the standard of his punditry - fantastic.

That's what I was thinking.  Plenty of good managers make shite pundits.  We get a host of them.

Here's two managers for example that were absolute dogshit:

    http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Palms/6687/keggy.html

    http://www.england2006.co.uk/bobbyrobson.htm

Glad we never had those two. bluelaugh.gif

im not on about making the odd 'bobby-ism', i am on about rabbling on as if you are delirious, the bloke doesnt talk any footballing sense whatsoever

And yet he picked France to win the tournament, while the others all picked teams that went to the QFs at best.

What exactly do you mean by footballing sense?

I agree with you he's a shite pundit. So are a lot of people, including two of Newcastle's greatest managers (and one of England's ).

so he was wrong as well then?

Better to be wrong on the matter of one missed penalty then pick teams who went out two rounds before them tbh.

Has he been a pundit in the past, I don't remember that?

i think you have to accept that he was only 'right' out of himself and hansen, as if shearer, wright and leanardo are going to go for anyone else other than their home countries

aye he has been on the beeb before, it might have been the last world cup or euro 2004? i always got the impression him and hansen didnt like each other but they seemed ok in this tournament?

  5. What exactly is it he's said that's so obviously wrong?  He talked crap at times, like waffling on about his appearances in the European Cup final, but what exactly are you meaning?

im not particulary on about tonight, i am on about teh whole of the tiurnament, at times i have just burst out laughing at him, he just goes off on tangents that are not at all related to the topic.

if you watch, lineker kind of swerves him in certain situtions as well. i.e when something seriosu needs to be talked about he ALWAYS asks the two alans to analise it, and i dont blame him!

Didn't you buy his book, Lovejoy?

I seem to remember you forming a far different impression of him from that.

i did! i liked what i read a lot! it was a biography though and not an autobiography, if it was an auto biography i would still be on it now because the fucker would have gone off on one in every page! bluebiggrin.gif

i know what you mean about keegan and bobby, but you always know that they know what they are talking about, despite the odd mistake with a phrase or a name.

with MON its just sureal sometimes, its as if he is putting on an act, or is pissed, or sleeptalking, or all three!

i knwo that being shite pundit doesnt make him a shite manager, i just know that if we had got him, and i had watched him on the bbc this summer, i would be worried about his mental state given some of the things he has come out with!

i seem to remember him being pretty good in the past as well??? him and hanson used to have some good debates

im just stunned that the bloke doesnt seem to have a clue what he is on about! i have never heard ANYONE rabble on so much about complete and utter bullshit, at times, he doesnt seem as if he is all there!

  10. i have to say ne5, i agree, i was a big supporter of us getting o'neill, and i have been very disappointed with his punditry.

to put it bluntly, the bloke talks bollocks 99% of the time

  11. my mate archie won it for us!

archie was the keeper at west allotment, the benfield and he played aginst our young'uns in the cup final for blyth.

spoke to him before and he was at the after party at the copthorne! lucky bastard! bluebiggrin.gif

and a headline on nufc.com to boot! well done my son!

  12. is it just me who liked the look of him??

i dont think he is suited to plying on his own up top because he looks like he enjoys going wide and dropping deep, but i think he looked good tonight.

    i liked him.

not sure about £10m + but £7m ish would be a good deal imo

  13. Been watchin this Holland match and Kuyt looks shite. Wouldn't want to spend more than £3-4mil on him if we do go for him though.

in the same way as me and baggio have been reading different books, we have been watching different games!

    wtf?!

he thought kuyt looked shite tonight! i certainly didnt!

  15. However, Robson states in that chapter that if he were to sell Shearer then he has been offered Mpenza for £1.2 million, not once does he say he wanted to sell Shearer though...

well he went to freddy and asked him, and freddy said no, he wouldnt have done that otherwise would he!

i went to a beardsley talk in a couple of years ago, and he said that bobby wanted to sell him to liverpool

anyway, thats by the by now, kuyt looks quality!

  16.

that was around the same time that bobby wanted to sell him to liverpool though (i think)

That's ok then. A great difference between that and Bellamy also seeking clarification on his place. bluewink.gif

i dont recall the manager trying to sell bellamy though, do you?

I don't recall Robson trying to actively sell Shearer either. I would have forgiven him had he done so though, right from the start he was aware of Shearers power and at the later stages it was clear that the inability to drop shearer was inhibiting our play.

"To succeed here it is essential that I get on with Alan Shearer," he insisted.

For a manager who had coped with, among others, Ronaldo, Romario and Stoichkov, it seemed an unusual admission. Yet, well aware that Shearer had engineered his predecessor, Ruud Gullit's exit, Robson was acutely conscious that the former England captain is a consummate politician.

Strangely enough,  Robson was dismissed almost immediately after omitting Shearer from the starting XI for a league match.

Anyway, here is what Robson had to say regarding Shearer leaving.

Newcastle boss Bobby Robson has revealed Celtic boss Martin O'Neill tried striker Alan Shearer to replace the out-going Henrik Larsson.

"Martin was on the phone to me to ask about the situation with Shearer. He wanted to know if we would let him go," said Robson.

"I thought it was a big enough story to tell my chairman (Freddy Shepherd) about but he said to forget it.

"He wasn't for selling Alan and I felt the same way."

He added: "So it never got past first base.

"Alan will want to finish his career in the black and white and retire at the end of the season.

"He's said it is what he plans to do and once he has made a decision he never goes back on it.

"I can understand why Martin would have wanted Alan to join Celtic. He is a leader and a tough guy but it was just a non-starter."

read bobbys book, you will find that he did try to sell shearer to liverpool to bring in mpenza

You've read a different book to me if thats the case...

i dont think i have, liverpool bid, bobby went to freddy and explained that he could use the money to buy mpenza, freddy said he couldnt sell 'the crown jewls'.

    what did you read like???
