Two people were involved, one has a record for being violent, the other doesn't. You don't need to know either to understand that, it's been well publicised.
Name these players at every club who has fractured a team mates jaw. I have only known one person hit another at work and he was sacked on the spot, rightly.
I'd love to see the reaction of some of our fans if it was them who had received a fractured or broken jaw. I wonder if they would be taking the same stance, I doubt it.
If it's true and the police become involved then he'll probably get time and I would guess that he'll be looking at 18 months. If he was charged with intent then that could double.
I didn't agree with Shearer hitting Gillespie and should have been punished for it but like all things in life the punishment should fit the crime, common assault is a lesser crime than GBH.
Try going to work and breaking somebodies jaw and see how long you keep your job. How many players have broken a team mates jaw? You must be able to name quite a few if "Incidents like this are common place at football clubs."
Where did I suggest it was a prolonged assault?
People do get hurt in fights and the person who inflicts damage usually gets done for it, regardless of how long the fight lasts.
