  1. Yep, Redknapp was more or less the only premiership manager who was prepared to give scumball a chance. I think he'll stay with Pompey tbh.
  2. Was said on 5live that Fifa had granted Mascherano 'special dispensation' to play in view of the 'exceptional circumstances'. Don't know how or why they came to that decision. Edit: And 5live did say Fifa, not Uefa, so maybe it stems backs to his registration, I don't know.
  3. TBH, just the sort of player they'll need to help establish themselves in the premiership. I can't see Sunderland going straight back down this time around. Why? I don't think they'll go down because of Keane. He knows what needs to be done, I think Quinn will give Keane money, and some players with experience will come in. Perhaps, most importantly, they have players who can score goals. Watford's problem, and Wigan, is that the strikers weren't scoring goals, Stokes and Edwards I think will, especially Stokes who I saw quite a bit of when he was with the scum academy. He has got some talent, just not enough for Wenger............. and he's not French!
  4. TBH, just the sort of player they'll need to help establish themselves in the premiership. I can't see Sunderland going straight back down this time around. You think he's still got the legs? Nowt wrong with experience but he's going to have an awful lot of running to do next season. Only time will tell whether he'll be quick enough, but he's got the right attitude to have an impact. He's still a top notch ballwinner imo, it's just whether he's quick enough to get to the ball!

  6. He won't say anything for definite until the season is over. He may be waiting to see if Reading finish in the top 7 but I don't think so tbh.
  7. I've got a feeling we might end up with him. I'm a bit undecided about him, tbh. Agbonlahor played alongside Carew could probably do just as good a job in time. He's shown hints of it in recent games. I think you may well be right. Whatever people say about his limitations, and there are a few, he is the most natural goalscorer at WHL. What he needs more than anything is to be trusted and with MJ using him as 2nd choice to Keane isn't doing his self belief any good. SGE with Walcott for the WC and McLaren since then have done him no favours either. No doubt imo he will score goals in the right environment. That environment isn't at WHL. Think he could do good for you under MON. As I said, I think he'd do well alongside Carew (who is one of the most physical but intelligent players ive ever seen), but I dunno, Agbonlahor plays well there and it is his natural position. I'd take him but not if it were at the cost of strengthening more pressing positions elsewhere. Have you got any holding midfielders or right backs going spare? Loads but too few at the level you (or I) would want! Has Lennon actually retired or is he just leaving Celtic? For holding MF's, there's few better. Wouldn't surprise me if he joined you for a season. Your youngsters could learn a lot in that time.

  9. I think Sunderland will be next season's Reading. In Keane they have a winner and a motivator, some of it is bound to rub off on the players.
  10. http://www.londonstockexchange.com/en-gb/pricesnews/prices/system/detailedprices.htm?sym=GB0006572795GBGBXSEQ10657279NCU Thanks, I was commenting rather than asking, but appreciated all the same. I still think the activity in football shares has a lot to do with Arsenal/Dein/Kroenke etc. Spurs price has gone up another 6%+ today, they've doubled in value in 6 months. It's probably clubs that would be good to take over rather than firm belief that one is imminent. http://www.londonstockexchange.com/en-gb/pricesnews/prices/system/detailedprices.htm?sym=GB0008962986GBGBXAIM%200896298TTNM
  11. Don't the Telegraph do a page showing the number of transactions, how many shares bought or sold etc any given day?
  12. What are they smoking at WHL? News to me. Maybe the agent trying to drum up a move or maybe a straight swap, Corradi for Mido, they're as bad as each other. Mido's weight has ballooned again so he has picked up another mystery groin strain that will probably put him out for the season! The only good news is that Pearce is still keen on signing him!
  13. You're not honestly suggesting Routledge? Extremely inconsistent, chip on his shoulder, will be gone in the summer, almost certainly to Fulham. That's his level, bottom end of the premiership or good championship. He's barely into double figures, salarywise as well. Has looked quite good on the few occasions I have seen him but wasn't aware of any chip on his shoulder. Would have been a decent squad player otherwise imo. Thought he showed a bit of promise, although erratic, when he was on loan at Pompey but hasn't hit those heights this season. He's been disruptive at Spurs though. I think the fact that he has been out on loan for practically 2 seasons tells its own story.
  14. Probably an increase on the back of Kroenke's interest and investment in the scum. Spurs' share price has gone up 12% in the last week or so, doesn't surprse me in the least that a club of Newcastle's stature would have it's share price affected by that as well.

  16. Don't think there's much doubt that Defoe will be on his bike in the summer. Being talked about as Man Utd's 4th striker, Pompey want him too ('Arry would!), but my guess is still Villa, the one club that keeps coming back wanting to talk some more.
  17. Not quite as simple as it seems. When we signed him from Leeds, Keane refused to take a salary cut. Leeds wanted him off the books and agreed to pay half his wages. Pleat agreed to a 2 year option being bolted onto the contract thinking Leeds would pay half that as well. He was wrong. So it was a case of either taking up the option for a further 2 years (no signing on fees etc) but meeting all the salary or letting him walk away on a bosman. One of the decisions that eventually led to Pleat's exit so I understand.
  18. It's being reported in the Korean media that Reading have accepted an invitation to take place in the Peace Cup. Held every two years, Spurs are the current holders but are holding back on a decision whether to particpate until they know where they finish in the league. The Peace Cup clashes with the Intertoto. http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/readingfc/2009/2009954/seol_to_get_peace_of_the_action Seol to get Peace of the action Reading look set to compete in the Peace Cup in South Korea this summer. The Evening Post can reveal that Royals are close to agreeing to play in the tournament which takes part every two years. River Plate, Argentina’s most successful club side, are certain to play, while runaway Serie A leaders Inter Milan are thought to be in discussions. Advertisementyour story continues below There will also be another Premiership club involved as well as Royals, who will be a major attraction with South Korea international Seol Ki-Hyeon in their squad. Seol is acknowledged as one of the country’s most popular footballers along with Manchester United’s Park Ji-Sung and Tottenham Hotspur’s Lee Young-Pyo. Holders Spurs have been in discussions about defending their trophy, but are unable to commit at the present time. The tournament is made up of two groups of four with the winners of each group meeting in the final. The Peace Cup champions can earn in excess of $2,000,000, while the runners-up net around $500,000. Dates and venues have yet to be finalised, but I understand the tournament could run from July 12 to 20 in stadia that were used to host the 2002 World Cup. The competition is organised by Sunmoon Soccer Foundation for Peace, which was set up by Reverend Sun Myung Moon and his Unification Church. Its followers are known as Moonies and were banned from entering the UK in 1995 after accusations of brainwashing. However, the tournament is sanctioned by FIFA and the South Korea Football Association. The first Peace Cup in 2003 was won by PSV Eindhoven. Lyon, who were beaten 1-0 in the final, were runners-up again in 2005 when they lost 2-1 to Spurs. Meanwhile, Reading’s next match is at home to Premiership rivals Newcastle United on Monday night. Ruled out by injuries are skipper Graeme Murty (calf), Glen Little (Achilles) and Ibrahima Sonko and Bobby Convey (both knee). Convey is set to return to England this weekend, having had surgery on his knee in the United States. Manager Steve Coppell will make a couple of changes to the side that won 3-1 at Bolton Wanderers last Saturday. Shane Long could be handed a start, while contract-rebel Steve Sidwell will feature again. Sidwell looks set to leave when he becomes a free agent this summer, but insists he hasn’t agreed to join Newcastle. Aston Villa, Everton and Chelsea are all in the hunt for him. Sidwell said: “The manager seems resigned to the fact that I am leaving this summer, but I am keeping my options open. “I know the season is beginning to wind down now, but I am not going to make any rash decisions. “It is an important time in my career, and I will speak to the people closest to me about what is the right decision. But I will wait until the very end of the season before I make my final choice.” Newcastle could be boosted by the return of England international Michael Owen after 10 months out with a serious knee injury. —Royals will play Brentford in a pre-season friendly at Griffin Park on Wednesday July 25 (7.45pm).
  19. Levy won't break the wage structure for anybody. Break it for one and every other player in the squad will be wanting more.
  20. I think there was an item last weekend on Football Focus saying that of those announced Spurs were the only ones to have upped their prices. A fella from the Spurs Supporters Trust was on moaning about it by all accounts. Only heard about it like, I was at WHL for the NLD so I missed it.
  21. Jeez, Newcastle could sort out the defence with that sort of money. Like you say though, had loads of potential. Just showed what he was capable of in flashes. Wasted his talent imho.
  22. He could hardly say there's nothing to play for for the rest of the season. Personally, I think it's possible for Newcastle still to qualify, but unlikely.
  23. I tend to agree with you but I can't imagine Levy shelling out £6m with his injury record. Given half a chance Levy drones on and on about Anderton's injury record, can't imagine he'd want that again!
  24. The ITK who reported it isn't a journo.
  25. Dragon's info is usually spot on, personal friend of Comolli. He said Dyer's agent was punting him around for £6m, I'm not disputing that with him.
