  1. No different to bringing Gross into the topic tbh. But, as you did, I compared Gross's failure at Spurs to Souness's at Newcastle. ...but you're old, you should know better than to become embroiled in "tit for tat" arguments. Martin Jol do you know Alan_Keys? Not a 'tit for tat' argument, simply comparing like with like. No argument when there is no judgement made of who was better. Alan Keys? Not personally.
  2. PMSL you can't keep hold of decent players, Carrick was off at the first opportunity. I'd be amazed if a) Owen isn't here next season and b) Berbatov is still at Spurs and c) not even the great Arthur C Clarke could write such an unbelievable story as Michael Owen leaving Newcastle for a little club like Spurs. Why would you be amazed if Owen left you?. You think bottom half premiership finishes are good enough for a striker like him? After 12 games?? Trust me he's going no where for now. You think playing for a club who rarely sold out throughout the 90's, employed Christian Gross as manager, couldn't sell out a deby against Arsenal this year, was sponsored by PONY, who brung 400 here in 1999, and who have finished in the top five once in 16 years is good enough for Berbatov? DB is good as gone, I'll give you 6/4 now he stays. Gross might have been crap for Spurs but he's proven himself on the Continent. Souness has been a failure most places he goes and at least Gross didn't blow the best part of £50m on an assorted collection of failures. I've never said I think Owen will leave, but assuming he stays, what are his ambitions? Win the premiership? Top 4? Top half? Whats anyone's ambitions at Spurs then? To improve results season upon season and improve the squad for continued improvement in results. That's been achieved for each year that Levy has been in charge. Still a long way to go to break into the top 4. A couple of points away last season.... Flash in the pan or going backwards??? A poor Arsenal season together with getting knocked out of both Cups at the first hurdle saw us get close to 4th. That position made a lot of people think we had improved more than we had. This season hopefully we will finish around the same position with a similar number of points but also had the extra matches from 3 good Cup runs. Also, we've had injuries this season, we had very few last season. Overall, I would say that we've progressed again.
  3. It's not gonna get any easier with all these investors and takeovers at clubs though. But it could become easier if the investors and takeovers take place at the club you support. Both Newcastle and Spurs have been the subject of speculation and still remain attractive to possible takeovers. Whether you'd wish to see an Abramovich type figure at the helm, everyone has different opinions. Personally I don't.

  7. he was tbh. Jenas was motm though. he was tbh. Jenas was motm though. Daws was solid, I wouldn't put it any stronger than that. He's also suffered from the lack of a settled back 4 because he hasn't come close to his performances of last season. Fifty odd goals conceded tells its own story. The fact that spending £7.5m on Younes Kaboul tells you that the management aren't satisfied. My guess will be King and Kaboul to be the regulars with Daws taking over from King when there's too many matches in too short a time. He'll still have to be on his toes because Dervite, when he's back from his ACL, has the potential to get ahead of Daws in the pecking order. BTW, my motm was Zokora, although I would concede that JJ was more deserving of that accolade than Berbatov.
  8. £35 per head would represent quite a reduction on what we have been paying but it would be for only 19 League matches plus whatever Cup fixtures.. Spurs have been speaking to the FA to try to arrange a 'dry run' pre-season friendly with Celtic. The possibility of renting Wembley is still very much in its early stages though. No doubt that Spurs now have all the land they need to either redevelop WHL to a 52/60k seater. I think they would opt for the former with the capability of further expanson. They've also been buying up industrial land nearby so they also have the option to do a complete rebuild if Transport for London can't sort out the transport infrastructure around WHL. I have the feeling that the announcement regarding the future of WHL will be released once it's decided what happens while the building work takes place.
  9. Agree with most of what you said, but the bit in bold is reaching a bit far. A player of his caliber should aspire to be playing regular CL football. He said on SSN one time that it is more important to be happy playing in a competitive league than playing in CL. Not much doubt he wants CL but is prepared to wait a bit to get it. How long is the big question............. I can't understand why any realistic Tottenham fan could ever envisage socmeone like Berbatov using you as anything other than a stepping stone, and how you could ever picture yourself as a Champions League club. Ambition, hopes, dreams. In the pre-Keegan days, could you ever picture Newcastle competing in the Champions League? Can Leeds fans hope that their club return to the heights of just a few years ago? A lot will depend on how Spurs fare the rest of this season, what signings are made and how next season goes. If the names I've heard come to fruition, then maybe we could push for a CL place, maybe not. The good news is that there is a lot of money available in the transfer pot for the right players, Berbatov is very happy with life in London and at Spurs, and maybe surprisingly, Levy is reviewing the salary structure at the end of the season. Add to that the news that Charlie Lewis (Joe's boy) will be taking a more active role at Spurs suggests that there might be more money about without the need for selling to an oligarch. Whether there will be sufficient progress quickly enough to keep Berbatov happy only time will tell. As I've said before, as long as I can see steady progress being made, I can wait for progression to the top table. If Berbatov does go before that happens, Spurs should be receiving a very large fee in return. I'm optimistic though that he will still be around for the next 4 years. Names you've heard . Like who? Let me guess, Messi, Gattuso, Mancini, Gerrard and Sergio Ramos? None of them are good enough for a club of Tottenham's huge unparalelled stature IMO. Thats just as well then because I haven't heard any of those mentioned.

  11. You'll be signing Beckham next! Mind you, to get him out of the USA contract, you'll have to pay him £500k pw.
  12. Why would he go to Spurs? He wouldn't but I'd still love to see him playing alongside Berbatov. Even if Levy did stump up the money and MO was happy to move to London, not much chance of fitting Owen into our wages structure! :'(
  13. It must be a relief to all Spurs fans to read this, safe in the knowledge that football agents never lie. I am suitably reassured! Just hope that Alan Brazil wasn't lying when talking about Spurs this morning. I'm sure he wasn't.
  14. I'd be happy for there to be a release clause as I'd love to see MO playing regularly at WHL, I think he and Berbatov would be a superb partnership. Unfortunately, I think Owen will go to Man Utd and Darren Bent will go to Spurs in spite of Liverpool's interest in DB. He doesn't want to leave London (apparently).
  15. Oh, multi-millionaire for doing f*** all. Sounds alright to me!
  16. If Newcastle waited another season so there would only be 1 year remaining, wouldn't Owen be entitled to pay up his contract to Newcastle and be free to go? One year's wages would be say £5.5m, which wouldn't be much of a return on the investment bearing in mind how few matches he has played for you.
  17. What looks likes the final update on this rumour comes from Berbatov's agent: Dimitar Berbatov's agent appears on Radio Five Live Dimitar Berbatov's agent Emil Dantchev appeared on Radio Five Live this evening in a bid to counter suggestions that his client would move from White Hart Lane in the summer. Stating that Dimitar was enjoying his football and that they both felt they had 'found the right club in Tottenham'. Dantchev also moved to counter rumours of a move to Manchester United, amid feverish speculation amongst the tabloids that Sir Alex is targeting the Bulgarian. According to Dantchev there has been no contact with any other club, and the repeated denials can only be a good thing for the fans and the club alike. After the Michael Carrick incident last season fans could be forgiven for taking constant reassurances that the club have no intention of selling one of their top players with a pinch of salt; hopefully, in this case, we can all rest easy. The news comes after Berbatov inspired the 2-0 victory against Charlton last night, a result which saw our London rivals slip from the top tier of English football. The Bulgarian hitman opened the scoring after duping Charlton defender El Karkouri with the deftest of touches, sauntering around the lead footed Moroccan and poking the ball brilliantly past Scott Carson. The result and respectable performance was confirmed after substitute Jermain Defoe connected to a Berbatov through ball to fire past the on loan Liverpool goalie from 20 yards. The result puts the club into sixth with just two games remaining. In such good form, and with a confidence inspiring clean sheet in the bag (just our sixth of the season), further UEFA Cup football looks a distinct probability, rather than possibility, next season. http://www.tottenhamhotspur-mad.co.uk/news/loadnews.asp?cid=TMNW&id=337876
  18. I dunno, any player can move for the right price. You honestly wouldn't bite for $30mil? See your point, though. No pressure on Spurs to sell. I said in a previous thread that Levy wouldn't sell less than £30m, probably not go for £35m either. Not that he's worth that, I reckon around £22m currently, but it sends out all the wrong signals if we did sell, selling club, no ambition etc. Carrick had only 2 years left and wanted to go, Berba (with options to extend) has 4 and says he's happy at the present time. If we started to go backwards, he would be gone soon enough. You could buy a couple of players called ambition with 30mil in the bank. Hard to be labeled a selling club when you'd use the money to buy other quality players. You're hardly a club like Wigan. Try telling the bulk of the Spurs fans that! If we got Bent, Owen and Baines for Berba, I personally would take it. I would also be very much in the minority.

  20. Anyone know how long does he have left on his contract?

  22. Berbatov will go nowhere this summer, there is no pressure to sell as there was with Carrick. Next summer? Depends on how Spurs perform, whether Berba signs a new contract etc. I wouldn't rule it out next summer but not this.
  23. If Charlton manage to keep most of their squad, I think they will have a good chance of bouncing straight back. Not certain that the ones that matter will be at the Valley next season.
  24. I doubt that there would be many takers even if he was free tbh.
  25. Sad about Charlton. Wanted Watford, Wigan and West Ham to go down. Think you're right about Defoe, but he doesn't contribute a lot if he's not scoring goals................. other than keeping the offside stats ticking over. Don't want Pearce sacked either until he's signed Mido!! I'd be happy with Bent and Dixon to replace those . I know Dixon's highly rated, but it'd be foolish for us to rely on a teenager who's yet to play even a reserve game. Not to mention that his whole career's been plagued by injuries, and he's only 16/17. Seems that we're only too happy to pile on the pressure on youngsters (see Pekhart and Taarabt) when there really isn't any need to. Any idea on when Defoe's contract expires? Think we'll struggle getting him to sign a new one, so it might be in our best interests to cash in on him. If Dixon is good enough to make the Irish senior squad, he should be good enough to be our 4th striker, and he is back training again. Pekhart has still a way to go, when he is as prolific in the reserves as he is in the Academy then he may be ready to progress further. Everything I've seen of Taraabt in the reserves plus what I've been told suggests he will be a class act. Defoe's got 2 years left, but I think he will be gone to Villa in the summer. He'll get more games there compared to Man Utd or Chelsea.
