If they are genuinely more than one bidder, the .com storey may have some truth as Ashley may try and force a bidding war. He will want to get as much money as he can from the sale.

What if there is no buyer and Ashley just wants to sell as much as he can before he pulls the plug and sends us into Administration... Not only leaving us without players but with a point’s deduction for the start of the new season. :weep:

It does not surprise me. The club needs to off load all the high earners. It simply will not make enough money next year to cover their wages. Also if he gets rid of the players on high wages it will make the club a little more saleable. A new owner will not have that problem and will be able to come in and set their own wage structure.

If we get sold within the next month and the new manager is given some backing in the transfer market there is no reason why we cannot be optimistic about next season.

I think we will get a buyer; we are a club that will be picked up cheaply. Someone will come in with a low price, giving Ashley a take it or leave it choice. If they are not a lot of buyers he will have little choice.

From the Independent Ashley cuts third of staff By Michael Walker Saturday, 30 May 20 Newcastle United yesterday delayed the expected announcement of Alan Shearer's appointment as manager in order to deal with up to as many as 100 redundancies at St James' Park, the administrative cost of the team's relegation from the Premier League. With speculation regarding a takeover ongoing it has emerged that the investment banker Keith Harris visited Newcastle's training ground on his visit to Tyneside this week. That will fuel the belief that owner Mike Ashley is preparing to sell the club. Newcastle's last accounts showed that the club has 307 full and part-time non-football staff and it appears that the owner, Mike Ashley, has ordered a cut of one third. The recently hired chief operations officer, David Williamson, is the most high-profile departure, but there have been redundancies across several departments as the club anticipates a potential £50m decrease in revenue. Newcastle's greatest expense is their playing-staff wage bill and a reduction is anticipated. One of Shearer's first tasks will be to release players and Newcastle are encouraging interest in Joey Barton as an initial step in that process, though his agent has said repeatedly that he will not be forced out. Shearer is now expected to be confirmed as manager next week. May not want to confirm that they will hire a new manager on a few million a year, at the same time make over a hundred people redundant. It would not be the best piece of publicity

The guy is not cut out for the English game. He is not quick enough, not strong enough, getting caught out to many times with a simple ball over the top. As for blaming the midfield in front of him that is a joke. It is the same midfield that plays in front of Bassong; and he has not looked slow and weak this year.

http://www.setanta.com//uk/Blogs/Pat-Dolan/2009/05/Expectation-too-high-at-Newcastle/ does this guy know anything about football?

All the best lads for today’s game i will be watching here in south Australia already phoned in sick so no work tonight,(what a week to be on nightshift) They is no way I could miss this game plus I will need more than a few beers to steady the nerves. We can do it.

I have to agree he needs to act very quickly. Who ever is in charge next season needs as much time as possible to prepare for the new season, as the players we have now are not good enough to move the club forward. Or get the team promoted. Hopefully by next weekend we will know who is going to be managing Newcastle united next season.
-
Every player at every club is available at the right price. i would like to see most of them moved out over the summer. then we can move forward as a club. he would need to cut costs first , which will then give the club some room to invest.
-
the players are every bit to blame as Ashley.
-
At the end of the day you cannot blame Webb. At 0-0 our defence has pushed up and went missing and we end up giving away a soft goal. Who ever is in charge next season needs to short out the defence and bring in defenders who can defend. It does not matter who plays in midfield or up front went you consistently give away soft goals like we do you end up going down.

If we beat fulham we will be safe,we will be above Sunderland and they will not get another point this season. beat Fulham happy days

"I won't be going to a game because we're training on Saturday morning and in the afternoon I'll be sat with the Teletext watching the results come through like everyone else," Shearer said. "I won't be going to walk the dog, either. i liked last bit of the quote

Zola has done well at West Ham with the aid of a good number 2. no reason why Shearer should not be given a long term deal. it going to take a few years to sort it all out.
-
totally agree.
-
How is that, in any way, the case? We were losing every game with Chris Houghton in charge and no one wanted the job, we were in danger of beating Derby’s record low points total. He at least tried to steady the ship, and got a few results, in the time he was here.

A new four year deal. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/premierleague/newcastle/5297187/Newcastle-United-to-offer-Alan-Shearer-brfour-year-deal-to-stay-as-manager.html
-
He was the guy who stepped in when no one else would, if he did not we would probably be down by now; we were in a bigger mess when he took the job, than when he had to step down from the job. He was never going to be the long term answer,
-
The daftest thing of all is if we can get two home win that will probably be enough to keep us up. Even if we did stay up this year we have too many players who are not good enough on large wages that no one else will look at buying off us, so we will be in the same position next season. We are so desperate for a quality centre half that can lead and organise the back four. (The second and third goals last night and the goal Stoke scored were an embarrassment to non league defending never mind premier league.) As well as two new centre midfields to go with a right winger and back up full backs. Too much is needed. The club is now paying the penalty for many years of bad management. It started long before Ashley came he as just added to the problem not solved it.
